Newcomer! Needing some help.

Hey Everyone. First just wanted to say awsome website!! Been learning tons on here on the TL

Im gonna be buying a TL hopefully pretty soon. I was wondering if there were any recalls or problems on the 2004. Ive seen a couple for sale with very low km but I know that usually when a brand new style comes out on a car it usually has some problems. And a couple people have mentioned a few problems. Just kinda curious if i should stay away from 04 and keep more of an eye on 05-06.

My next question was what u guys thought about the auto or 6MT. I cant seem to decide wich one to go with. I love standard on my cars, but this thing is more luxury and im really thinking about getting the auto for a little more class. Maybe u guys have some info that maybe could maybe decide on wich one.

i have a 2004 TL, with 48K miles. i use it as my daily driver and it's nothing but no big changes between 04 & 05. the 06 has tire pressure management system and iPod integration added. as far as tranny, reason why i went 5AT is coz my commute to work. 112 miles a day and mostly in traffic. if my TL was a weekend car, i'd definitely get 6MT. brembo calipers look nice everytime i see a 6MT

Welcome to the forum. One of the first things you should do is read 3G Garage. It covers a lot of general info about the TL. The TL has it's share of problems as with every other car. Some have had better luck than others. I would definetly be looking at the 06 models, however you could posibly get a 05 even cheaper. As far as AT vs MT, that has been an ongoing debate abd there are numerous threads on this topic. A search will come up with a number of threads. Here's a few:

I dont think there is much you have to worry about, most of the problems
people have with the TL are minor problems like rattles.
I may have a twisted view though, I came from a VW passat, which
you worry about actualy getting where you are going before the ecu's fry or the
fuel pump wears out.
Pay no attention to all those warning lights on the dash....that is VW's way
of letting you know the battery is still working....if the engine does not burn
oil, it leaks like a sieve...

I dont think there is anything very special about the auto trans TL.
There are lots of other cars that seem similar to me.
The TL has better than average style for a Japanese car, but there really
is not a lot of difference between the TL and an accord.
Some might like the folding rear seats in the accord, or like a hybrid,
or like the keyfob remote, or the better trip computer display.

But the accord did not come with a manual trans in the 6 cylinder and
4 doors, only in the coop.
I also did not want a car that was so common (and ugly).
If you can not figure out which car is yours at the mall, its to common....

The only thing that swung us was the manual transmission.
You can get a lot more luxury in other models, like auto headlights,
rain sensing wipers, 8 way passengers seat, etc, even at the same or
a lower price, but you cant get them with a manual transmission.

Jaguar used to offer the 3.0 S type with a manual, but dropped that some time ago.

Also keep in mind, some people with the auto trans complain about
vibrations, and accura has a tsb to partly correct the problem.

Be sure to take both types out for a good long test drive that includes
some hiway driving.
The wife and I found the manual to be much quieter and smoother in general
driving than the auto trans car we tried.
