Question Newby w/ Basic Questions

There are a couple things I want to do right away but need some info...

I searched on some of these and got some good info but still have a few questions.

iPod... I know I know there are lots of threads on this but I don't want anything special... just an aux jack so I can stop using my FM modulator thingy with the static. Don't care about nav displaying the tracks (unless there's a cheap solution and I don't call $400 cheap). What should I expect to pay someone like Circuit City or local audio house to add an aux jack for me and is that the best approach?

Performance... what would be the first low cost performance mod you would do? I was thinking it was a CAI. If so which is the best for this car? Or should I do a chip? I am concerned about gas milage as I use this car to commute. Thoughts?

Spoiler... I like the two Acura ones but haven't decided between the two and haven't found the best place to get one... lowest cost... or perhaps an aftermarket version... but I do want quality not some cheap thing. Any draw backs to either of those two spoilers? Rattling, wind noise, truck issues, etc.?

Thanks in advance for the help... just picked up my 06 w/Nav Auto Silver w/Black Interior. Tinting the windows this week and maybe wheels sometime soon too.

Tints should be first...good job on planning to have that done.

CAI or rear sway bar are inexpensive and easy afternoon projects that give you results you can feel/hear. Seems to be a toss up between K&N and AEM...AEM is a little less expensive.

No chip yet.

Go with the lip spoiler, I love how it looks. You can find good quality ones on Ebay. A few of our forum members have purchased them and are happy with the paint match and ease of installation.

Welcome rasutton!

iPod Search for aux in. Most members are using Blitzsafe or PIE X3.

Spoiler I agree with subinf. If you go with ebay, buy from trimking. Lots of compliments on the forum about them.

iPod: USASpec PA11-HON2 iPod adapter from discountcarstereo.com for $130 shipped. Better than Music Link ipod integration.

Comptech Rear Sway Bar: Comptech RSB $110 from ebay or others.

Spoiler: See above

CAI: AEM CAI for about $205 shipped.

That USASpec thing is pretty cool... does it integrate with the Nav on the TL? That seems to be the only upside to the Music link from honda if so.

waacow, you are like the spokesman for PA11-HON2 now! Its almost like every thread you post you mention it. Glad you are enjoying the TL!

rasutton, check out this thread titled "THE alternate to the Musiclink is here." It will give you the 411 on the PA11-HON2.

rasutton: None of the current ipod adapter to date have full integration with Navi. All of them work like a CD changer when plug into the factory head unit.

datmrman: I just love that USASpec ipod integration (since it is the only one I got and so far I don't see any other one that beat it) (Blitzsafe seems to work same way, but I don't have any experience with it, nor PIE X3). I got USASpec installed myself within 15 minutes without taking apart of head unit and it is plug and play, and I can still control iPod while it is plug-in. I just don't have any complains about it besides no ID3 tag display, but no one support that anyways. Bottom line, it is affordable ($130), self-installed, and performed as expection.

waacow, yeah i hear ya on the USA Spec. I've been looking at Blitzsafe, P.I.E., and USA Spec for aux inputs and it seems like the USA Spec is the easiest install using your method. I've read the Blitzsafe has sound problems with the '06 (compared to the '04) so as of now USA Spec PA11-HON2 is at the top of my list.

I still don't like the idea of my iPod charging whenever I connect it to an interface. I wait til my battery dies before I charge my iPod and battery life has been excellent for me. I do that with most of my electronics: charge on empty. Thats why I prefer Aux-In over iPod integration... unless there is a way to disable the iPod from charging each time its connected.

Ok, I think I hijacked this thread enough

waacow, glad you enjoy and spreading the good word on the USA Spec.

rasutton, have you decided what else you wanted to do with the new ride?

Just got it back from being tinted. Silver looks really good tinted.

Going to order the lip spoiler and the iPod thingy from USA Spec today.

I've heard that there is a factory sport suspension kit for the car. Should I get this instead of the rear sway bar?

Also trying to pick wheels... I like classy wheels verse just going for bling. Is there a good site to see LOTS of different wheels on the car?

THanks for the help guys.

Both.

The "factory sport suspension kit" is also known as the A-Spec suspension kit. Not sure where it is the cheapest, but you can check eBay.

There is a group buy for the Comptech rear sway bar for $115 shipped by Excelerate.

Cool An iPod audio connection that doesn't disable other stuff in a 2004-5 TL

The Blitzsafe HON/AUX DMX V.2X is advertised to provide an aux audio input (useable with iPod) to a 2004-2005 Acura TL without disabling the CD changer, the Nav, or the XM radio. At $100, it sounds like the ticket.

Does anyone out there have any first-hand experience with this unit?

Just search the Audio subforum.

I've read that it has known and currently unresolved problems with the '06 though.
