Newbie needs some help with terminology....

I've been a member of this forum for about a month now and I have a couple of questions that I can't seem to answer for myself:

What does the term NBP mean (I've most often seen it when referring to a Type-S model)?

Can someone clear up exactly what A-Spec is? I've narrowed down that it's simply a body kit, or it's a package from Acura that includes a body kit and some other "performance" additions over the base TL.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Chris

NBP is a colour - nighthawk black pearl.

you've pretty much hit the nail on the head about a-spec; it's just the name for a number of parts designed for a more aggressive look or sportier performance.

And is A-Spec something that comes directly from Acura, or from an aftermarket manufacturer?

They're OEM parts.

for the automatics, they include the body kit, the spoiler, springs, brake pads, steering wheel, and a pretty badge that goes on the trunk. for the manual folks i think its all the same except for the brake pads, those do not get upgraded. and there are different springs for the AT and MT. the AT TLs are heavier so they require a spring that can hold up the extra weight. if you are looking to upgrade make sure you buy the correct parts. all these parts are covered under the Acura warranty too, which is very nice.

and welcome

btw, what color is your TL?

Actually, I have a TL-S, so does that mean that my car already has the A-spec suspension and brake upgrades? To answer the question posed above, my TL is black, so I guess that's the Nighthawk Black Pearl color......

yes, all 3G black TLs are NBP

and no, you dont have aspec. the suspension is different, and there is a body kit but i dont think they refer to it as "aspec" anymore. but the type-s already has Brembo brakes so there is no upgrade for those...same with all MTs, they have Brembos so no upgrade either. and i think they still sell the wheel upgrades, and i think there is a carbon fiber steering wheel too if that is of interest

For the most part, the later 3G's buy selected A-Spec parts, not a "complete" kit.

Usually an owner will go with 1 or more body panels or the Shocks/Springs or OE wheel upgrades. Sometimes all of them. Rarely the steering wheel or the pad upgrade.
