Newbie...awesome Site!!

Hey Guys, I'm brand new here...I just discovered this forum last night and registered today. This is a great site!!

I'm looking to purchase a new TL soon and I'm in shopping mode now. It's kinda hard for me to justify doing, as I just bought an 04 Maxima a year ago. The car only has 12k miles on it.....but I just gotta have a TL!! If the TLs were out when I got the Maxima it would have been a no brainer. DOH!!

Sooo....I've pretty much talked myself into taking the MAJOR depreciation hit (yeah, it's UGLY) and getting the TL.

So far I've taken two test drives and from what I can tell, the car is just awesome! The build quality, ponies, seats and overall looks are unbelievable for a car in the low 30s....The bad news is the dealer I went to gave me a "first pass" offer of only $20k for my car!! My Maxima is an SE with leather, moonroof, etc....basically everything but Navigation. I paid $29.6k for the d@mn thing one year ago (I told you it was ugly...I think I'm gonna be sick....)!!

Anyway, it looks like I might have to try and sell it privately...but I doubt I will ever own another Nissan...they just don't hold their value....

So, TL HERE I COME!!!

Thanks for the great site!!

Eric

Hey man, thanks for bearing your soul. I am ready to order a 2005 and hope to get to the dealership on Friday. A man's got to do what a man's got to do. Life is too short. Just a question, what don't you like about the MAX?

The Max is ok (the engine is great; smooth and powerful), but the TL is just so much nicer. Primarily, I hate the seats in the Max; they're not supportive enough because the foam is too soft...the minimal bolsters do absolutely nothing and I slide all over the place.

Then there's the torque-steer!! Absolutely terrible!!! The car has 255 ft/lbs of torque which is great, just not for a FWD car. I fight it all the time.

Also, after living with it for a year, I really began to see that Nissan is trying to be all things to all people with the Maxima. The Sport version (SE) isn't sporty enough because they're trying too hard to appeal to everyone., and the "Luxury" version is just stupid. All they do is put 17' wheels on it, softer springs, some fake wood trim and presto! Luxury!! lolol...

Finally....I just WANT A TL!!! HAHAHA!!!!

Track record. I had an Integra for 9 years and TWO Maximas in the past 4. I seem to keep Acuras longer...lol

A lot of people have had good luck at CarMax. I know they have some in the DC area, though
I'm not sure about NJ. Supposedly, they are very fair and will buy your car outright. I'm thinking
you can do a lot better than 20K . . . maybe 23K?

FYI, I traded in a 1995 Maxima with 150K miles for my TL.

dealer

I went to the route 18 open road acura in east brunswick, they are a good dealership and you should try them out for your tl. I got my 5at for 30,200 including destination. So if you are getting a 5at, look for a price around that range, even lower if its end of the month. Hope this helps.

Thanks Rachel....I'll take a look. I'm thinking I'll probably need to sell it privately. I think I might be able to get $25k or $26k for it that way...This seems to be a little less than what the dealers in the area are selling similar Maxs for...
