NEW Wdp TL.. pissed off..

I just got my TL yesterday and my stupid friend spilled his french fries in the car. i was cleaning it up and i dropped one somewhere near the center console, but i cant find it. I can smell it, but its nowhere to be found.

Also, is it normal for the car to shake a bit when the engine is turned on? It kinda feels like a mustang 5.0 when im idle. i got a little too happy with the power and i redlined it a couple of times...

totally normal!

I thought something was wrong too, but thats just the way they are? Go figure. But mine is only rough for the first 5 minutes after start-up. Also, french fries? I understand that the food has to get home somehow, by Why Why WHY! did you let him touch the french fries? hurts my heart.

Redlined a BRAND NEW car (a couple of times)... Idiot. Hope you never find the fry. It will help the interior match the ragged out engine.

ndabunka,,,,
why does one feel this type of comment is even necessary, let alone helpful? Then again, why do I care nor should cornelius. Besides, he already realizes is errors. You on the other hand, demonstrated here, have no idea of your issues....

Anyway, you hit a nerve ndabunka. Maybe that was your intention. Some day you will realize that this type of vindictive statement, whether your 5 or 80 years old, is only evidence of an "ignoranus"... - IE, someone one who is ignorant and an A-holl......

Cornelius,
Hope you find your "fry".... I wouldn't stress over the redline issues. If it was just for a second or so (as it usually is) the engine is fine... More times than not, this can actually benefit a new engine. Some of the best engine builders that trained/schooled me swore that you "brake it in like you're going to drive it".....

Cheers

try to move the seat as far front as possible (caught between seat and center console) then see from the rear and peek under the seat...

Ok.. so a Lexus IS300 continuously flashes his high beam and constantly pulls up next to me with that familiar smirk. What would you have done?

a) step on the gas and look to see a small Lexus in the rear view mirror
b) wave at him and say howdy, im ndabunka
c) you try not to look in that direction because you think its a potential gang member

that guy with the negative 'idiot' comment was pretty harsh...

but cmon.... you cant redline a new car "a couple of times" thats not right at all

if there was an is300 high beaming me and tryin to egg me on to race... i would let him take off and save my TL rather then kick his ass but maybe mess up the break in process....

Talking Would you like fries with that shake?

As far as the fries go, you may want to contact Rui on another thread. He has a smell in his car that he cannot find. Maybe you can give him a hint.

Regarding the shake, I wondered the same thing. My TL is only two weeks old, and it does idle a little more harshly at cold idle that I would have expected. After my 5.0 Mustang, I owned a 4 banger Honda Accord for 10 years. I think I got used to having almost no ponies under me.

Don't make no mistake, but my take is that the shake ain't gonna break your ride. But you better try to get that fry 'cause it ain't gonna fly.

Food only can be transported in the trunk, secured by the cargo net. That way, any odor will be shielded.

#1 - No Food.
#2 - No Drink (Only bottled water, capped when not in use.)

It looks like you went the same route as i did. I had a stang 5.0 and then traded that in for a 4cyl accord.

Yes, I was wondering about the similarities. I'll be dating myself a bit, but I owned an '82 GT and a '95 Accord. What year were yours?

I've heard that from engine builders before, but I wouldn't do it. That being said, I've spent some time around the Honda plant in Alliston, Ontario (they currently build the Civic for North America, Acura EL for the Canadian market, Ridgeline, used to build the Odyssey before it was moved to Lincoln, Alabama). There is a test track behind the plant and EVERY vehicle that comes off the line at both plants is test driven. Basically, the test driver does a full speed run, sounds like redline in the first few gears, then panic stop brake.

I personally drive reasonably during the break-in period, but considering what they do at the plant, I wouldn't think redlining it "a couple of times" will be harmfull as long as the engine is at proper operating temperature.

Slow down just to irritate him

Seriously... once the engine is broken in a bit, you have plenty of time to go mano-a-mano (or auto-a-auto) with folks, but let the thing settle in a bit first.

Anyone who has purchased a new car will understand...

Geez... if I raced everytime someone challenged me I'd never be able to afford my insurance, lol!

Congrads on your WDP. But please keep the food outside of your car. I had exactly the same experience as you in my Camry and only realized that I dropped a french fry after I smelled somethign oily in my car after it sat in the sun during the summer. I eventually found the dry fry but had to deep clean the carpeting since the oil had soaked in and would stink up the car when it got hot again. Lesson learned.

My favorite response to those that want to race is to rev the engine a couple of time, twitch up a little and ease it upto a leisurely 30-35mph. Make sure you smile at them at the next light. No rude gestures. (that could get you hurt or worse)

We head down to the go-cart track if we want to race. That's racing. it sure seems alot faster than the 25 or 30 we're probably going. Must be the open air and how close to the ground you are...

My boss once wanted to bring along his morning coffee in my TL when we were going to a meeting. I made him left the coffee on the curb.
