Cool New TLS Owner with question

Hi Guys,

I finally plunked down my hard earned CDN dineros and bought the elusive Type S in NBP!

The car has the following problems:

1. Paint damage, seems to be from a hail storm?? There are 5-6 minor impacts with paint peeling and cracking.
2. All 4 doors were misaligned with the upper edges of the doors sticking out. Passenger door was sticking out by 1/2"

Let's just say i am not too happy with the dealer who kept trying to tell me this is all normal.....not to an ACURAzinite! (I Love you GUYS!)

Other than that the car is great except for this weird engine idle...

During Idling, with the climate control on, the engine has a erratic idle...it will idle at just under 1000 rpm's and then every 30's to 1 min it will drop down to 500 rpm and then back up...this cycle continues until the climate control is switched off.

Does anyone have this problem or is this normal on the 3.5L??

Thanks for all you guys input into helping me choose this vehicle

I just picked up by CBP TL-S this Saturday, ran the A/C the entire time and the car idled just fine.

If the compressor was kicking in and off, it possibly might affect the idle, but it shouldn't be doing this consistently.

None of that sounds at all normal to me. You don't say, but the implication is that this is a brand new car (Type S=07). If so, you shouldn't accept any of what you have described as "normal"

Did you buy the car from an Acura dealer? If so, you need to take it back and have them make it right. Hail dings are one thing (and easily fixable), but paint peeling? This is a Honda product so, made in America or not, the body panels should line up more or less perfectly. And the idle problem is not normal at all. There might be a slight variation at idle speed as the compressor kicks on and off, but not by as much as you describe. Maybe a needles-width on the tach.

You know, the more I think about this, the more it sounds to me like you got a car that has had some bodywork done in the past, and by a none-too-swift repair shop. If you have been sold this car as "new", you may have bigger problems than what you are currently describing. I'd get a really good body man to take a close look at it before you go back to the dealer to discuss your issues.

None of this is "Normal" on a new car.

I agree with OKNBPTL. It sounds like your car may have had body damage that was shoddily repaired. Get it checked out by a reputiable body shop and then take it back to the dealer.

The longer you wait, the more likely it is that the dealer will claim you caused the problem

If you don't get satisification from the dealer, go directly to Acura Customer relations.

Good Luck

Thanks for all the help guys, the car is brand spanking new 10 miles on odometer! I even picked the car from two other type S which had all the tape and protection on it. But i just looked at it for like 5 mins and didnt see the hail paint damamge which was probably under the tape. But the doors i completely missed, I never suspected that the doors would be misaligned!! I made the Acura dealer write all this down and they assured me they would fix it right but we shall see. I take some photo's of her later when my camera works.

I haven't told the dealer about the idle problem yet but guess what?? This morning i started her up and the idle problem miraculously dissappeared??? Mabey it was just a one time occurance?

I really like the new car though and just wish the buying experience wasnt as stressful.

Another simple question, do you guys notice that the HFL center speaker has a slight static sound at all times when the key is in the ignition or is this just the ANC everyone talks about?

My 07 TL-S does the same idle thing you're talking about. About every 30 seconds or so it will drop RPMs when the A/C is on. My 06 TL would do the same also. I assume it's normal but the amount the RPMs drop does seem a bit much.
