New TL, wanted to say hi

HI!!!
I just purchased my 04 TL last weekend, traded in a 00 celica gts (i miss the car like crazy).
04 TL: silver ext, black int, 6 spd, no navi, I dont know alot about the car and the a-spec kit, but it has the same large black calibers that the a-spec has, and thats about it
Me: 20 yrs old, 3rd car purschased on my own, by far most expensive, drive ~100 miles/day between work and school

So far I have a few questions/ thoughts.

-the comfort level is nice, and the ride is smooth, but changing from the celica which handles like a dream, this car seems to handle horriable, I dont want to trade the smooth ride in at the same time (any recomendations)

-I really dont want to change out the cd player/stero but I used to have a aftermarket cd/mp3 player in my old car, and goin back to cd's seems like goin back to the 90's again, Is there any fix I can make with out buying a whole new aftermarket (out of place) head unit?

-I always was sure to fill up the gas tank of my other car with premium as recomended, but I was wondering with this car which i dont know a lot about yet, but it seems liek a accord, and accords do not require to be filled with premium unlead, i was wondering what the general concensus was on this topic, is it a no no, or not too bad if you dont drive the car like you stole it?

-Was thinkin about doin a few minor apperance mods, tinted windows, and maybe smoked lights... any one have pictures of a silver TL with smoked lights?

Thanks for anyone and everyones help!!!
feel free to throw in anymore useful information for a noob to the car aswell

Congrats and welcome.
to answer a few questions here goes.

-you can try changing the suspension and getting a rear sway bar which many here have done and say has made a difference.
-As far as radio is concerned you can look into integrating an ipod or if they have half din mp3 players that can fit right in the small console under the radio.
-definately fill up with 93.
if you'd like pics you can go to the photo section and see some there. You can also click on the first or second stickied thread on the photo section and look for the color of your car and see if the pics that are there.
-the 2004-2006 Tl's do not have auto headlights.

1. The TL handles really well for a FWD mid-sized sedan. You just got spoiled by the Celica. Go test drive some "regular" sedans like a camry, accord, civic, corolla, hyundai, and compare it to the TL. But if you still aren't satisfied, try upgrading the tires or install rear sway bar.

2. You can burn all of your songs on DVD-A discs. Do a search for a how-to. It's kind of a pain but you can fit like 8 albums on one disc, just like MP3. But you get better sound quality and you don't have to upgrade or modify the sound system in any way.

3. Fuel up with 91 or higher only. The accord and TL have different engines...

Congrats and welcome aboard.

Theres a lot of good information in The 3G Garage. A summary of iPod integration modules and details on DVD-A's can be found here: 3G TL Audio & Electronics FAQ

The 04-06 do have the "auto" headlights; just not the daytime running lights, which I am thinking that you were referring to... (?)

congrats on the new car and I think the 04-06 TL headlights work like my 00 but im not sure so correct me if im wrong. On my car if you leave the headlights on and leave the car they will shut down after so long. (15 seconds I think.) So you can just leave them in the on position but the problem with this is when you go to your car during daytime they are going to come on. Thats how mine works so I could be worng on this correct me if thats not how the 04-06 works.

welcome to AZ and congrats on the new car...i also own an '04 silver TL...

to add on to what others have always said, burn some dvd-a discs...you get the same amount of songs as an mp3 cd and better quality...

as for mods, put some white (or blue) LED lights in your car (see my sig for pics) and get an air intake...not too expensive stuff and sets you apart from most other cars...

A-spec is a body kit. The large black calipers you see come on the manual cars. They are larger brembo brakes. Congrats on the car! Im in the market myself, mind saying what you paid? you can pm me price if you like. thanks, Chris

Welcome, it might take a little while to get use to it, but you will love the TL. You can burn lower octane gas without really "hurting" it, but it runs a lot better on premium and gets better gas milage too.

That side LED shouldn't be too hard to replace, but you're right, the LED's should not be burned out yet. Is it still under warrenty?

I'm scared to go with lower octane gas... and the LED already got replaced under warrenty!

thanks!

Stick with the premium and you won't have to worry.

Mine gets nothing lower than premium.

Congrats on getting the sex speed. Since you already have the 6MT, it comes with a stiffer sway bar than the AT. If you want to upgrade that, Progress makes a 24mm sway bar. And you can either upgrade to A-Spec or other wonderful aftermarket suspensions. If you want a more agressive drop, you won't find that in the A-Spec.
