Exclamation New TL owner some basic questions please help!!!

Hey everyone, I just bought a new 2005 TL and I love it so far. I just have a few questions about some of the buttons in the car that I am having trouble figuring out.

1. I understand the VSA button is a Vehicle Stabilizer, but what kind of situations should I be using it for, if any? Also, how do I know if it is on or off?

2. My second question is about the 3 buttons on the top of the car right below the sunroof opener button. There are three buttons side by side by side, with 1, 2 and 3 dots. What are these buttons for, and what do they do?

All in all I am in love with the car, besides the occasional rattling in the sunroof and glove box area . I would appreciate some insight for my 2 questions. Thanks and God bless!

First of all, welcome to Acurazine. You're gonna enjoy your new car!

1. VSA is always on. When you hit the button, it turns off. I personally never turn it off. It can save your life if you lose control of your car.

2. These three buttons are remote controls. They can be programmed for things such as garage doors, remote lighting for your home, etc.

Get used to the rattles. It's the single most annoying thing I have found with this car.

Did your TL come with the manual? If so I suggest reading it one night, you'll learn a lot about the features of the car.

VSA should not be turned off, combined with EBD (electronic brake distribution) it can save your ass in the event things get dicey. IIRC the manual tells you to turn VSA off in one situation; that of being stuck in snow, and try to rock the car back and forth to get unstuck.

MT or AT?

MT-VSA should be off to enjoy it but not in bad weather
AT- Keep VSA on

There are a number of opinions as to whether or not you should turn VSA off (optional setting) or leave it on (default mode). The general consensus is to leave it on regardless of your transmission type and only turn it off for two reasons. 1) Snow. The VSA can be a detriment in snow as it will detect the onset of wheel slip and both back off on the throttle and apply braking. 2) When you want to push your car to its limits in a straight stretch of road - or a drag race, if you will.

For most every situation, you will want to leave it on for reasons already stated.

The manual states to turn it off if you have your spare tire on or for whatever reason do not have the same 4 size of tire on the car

1. Leave it alone-- that way the VSA is always active and may save your bacon in low traction situations.

2. The 3 buttons are "Homelink" remote buttons-- see post #2.

The owner's and Navi manuals can be viewed on-line by registering your Tl at: http://owners.acura.com/.

register with acura care 1-800-382-2238x5 as new owner and ask if all recalls are taken care of- they are free fixes to safety issues

on the website you register by VIN and lookup recall section there too
also store the radio and nav security codes
