0-60mph in 6.1, 1/4-mile in 14.44... they're actual numbers, not estimates buddy.
No one estimates to two significant figures,

January 04 Motor Trend Car of the Year article
Hey all...my first post, but a long time lurker. PeterUbers is correct. I received the January 04 issue of Motor Trend on Tuesday of this week which is the MT 2004 Car of the Year issue. Their instrumented performance data summary for a 6 Speed Manual TL has 0-60 at 6.1 sec, and 1/4 mile at 14.44@98.17mph.
For comparison, their numbers for the Acura TSX in the same test (6 Speed Manual) was 0-60 at 8.1 sec, and 1/4 mile at 15.80@89.33mph. The '04 BMW 530i (6 Speed Manual) in this same test posted 0-60 time of 7.4 sec, and 1/4 mile at 15.47@90.40mph....so the TL soundly trounces the new 530 in the acceleration arena.
What was the biggest surprise to me was that MT was critical of the TL's 60-0 braking performance which came in at 141 ft! (again...this is a 6M model...they didn't mention as to whether or not their model had the high performance tire option). This was in direct conflict with the MotorWeek program review that I saw earlier this week which praised the TL for is excellent (Porsche like) 60-0 braking performance of 115 ft. A difference of 26 ft in the 60-0 braking testing seems like too much of a delta...BTW the next worst braking performance in the test came in at 138ft for the Scion (Toyota) xA. Somehow I think something was mechanically wrong with the brakes on the '04 TL that Motor Trend tested

Fellas..
Do you realize that the 0-60mph time is soooooooo variable .. 5.9 to 6.3 is relatively negligible. Now, if you said 4.9 compared w/ 6.3 .. that's significant. I'd say +/- 0.3 on either side of 6.1 seconds is right around where the '04 TL's 0-60mph time should be.
The 1/4-mile time is faster than what MotorTrend once considered to be the fastest ET of any fwd car .. 14.5 out of the '03 Nissan Altima... looks like the '04TL 6-spd eclipsed that record! Funny how they don't make mention of it in the article.. yet they made such a big fuss over how fast the '03 Alty 5-spd was

How on earth did the TL get such a crappy braking distance? That just doesn't add up. Even the Altima got a better number than that. Must be a typo or something.
Regardless though that is still a respectable time for the TL. It puts it on par with the Altima, CL-S(6spd), waaay past the MAXIMA, and the on par with the V6 Accord Coupe.
Only car left in that class speedwise that beats it in all performance test (so far) is the G35 Sedan 6spd. But I have a feeling that C/D will get an even better time out of the TL.

I wonder if the performance difference in the cars has to do with the tires on them. The non-hpt bridgestones are pretty crappy and I bet they would not do well in a full abs stop test. If the car can turn 6.1 0-60 with the stock non-hpt tires I bet it can do 5.9 0-60 with decent tires on it.
I am still waiting to get past break-in on mine before doing some timed g-tech runs to get an idea of what it turns.
