The TL Type-S vs Base TL:
  • A 3.5 liter engine versus a 3.2
  • Stiffer suspension components (springs, struts, swaybars)
  • All Type-S models have Brembo front brakes (only the 2004-2006 6MT models have the same brakes).
  • Upgraded exhaust tips
  • Upgraded two-tone leather interior
  • Type-S badging

The Type-S also has restyled rear lamps and front fascia, lip spoiler, wider side sills, dark silver (waffle) 10-spoke wheels, a "black chrome" grille rather than the standard glossy grille and the Kinetic Blue Pearl color option. It has more highly bolstered front seats, two-tone seats (only with the Ebony/Silver interior), metal racing pedals, red interior lighting (as opposed to blue in the base TL).

I thought the 07-08 models including Type S have softer suspension? Or is that just the compliance bushing? I read that 04-06 models have a stiffer bushing than the 07-08s.

^^^^ Well you are wrong, here is the order going from softest to firmest suspension.

07-08 Base TL ---> 04-06 TL ---> 07-08 TL-S ---> TL A spec.

Also the Navi is standard in the Type-S as opposed as an option in the base TL. Basically, you get all the bells and whistles in the Type-S.

Really? That's annoying; I've been thinking to look for a TL Type-S 6MT in a couple of years, but I actively dislike in-built NAV. Grumble-grumble-grumble.

If the infotainment system is bothering you check out this thread: https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-a...le-din-962771/
I'm considering doing this as well, but currently I have no gripes with the stock nav system. Its actually pretty darn good for 10 years old! It might surprise you.

Theres also ways to custom fit new more advanced type screens in place of the stock system such as android tablets. Search around, theres lots of other people that have the same gripes as you but worked around it
