Talking New Race w/ Money Sucker "MB E55 AMG"

Man! The 04 MB E55 AMG is FAST! My TL kicked butt that money sucker about a quarter car length on my first and 2nd gear . But, I got my butt kicked after I shifted my gear to 3rd. But, hey, my car is 1/3 price of that E55 AMG. So, who cares, right? Anyway, i am satisfied w/ my TL!
Here is the comparison:
2004 Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG Sport
MSRP $81,520.00* (Money Sucker!)
Engine AMG-built intercooled supercharged SOHC 5.4L 24-valve V-8 engine.
Net Power 469 hp @ 6,100 rpm
Net Torque 516 lb-ft. @ 2,650 - 4,500 rpm

2004 Acura TL
MSRP $35,650.00
Aluminum Alloy 3.2-liter, 24-Valve, SOHC VTEC™V-6
Horsepower: 270 bhp @ 6200 rpm
Torque: 238 lbs-ft @ 5000 rpm

Not to bust on you, but I find it hard to believe your TL can roll up faster than the E55 AMG... especially the 2002+ models. Our TL TRQ is only 238 lb-ft and E55 is well equiped at 516 lb-ft. My cousin's gf drives a E55, and we've raced a few times a bit ago. Not to mention our HP is only 270 compared to their 469hp. Now, perhaps the driver in the E55 is an idiot or just let you go ahead of him first, our TL wil lose every time at the line.. either it's starting or top end.

Now if you race a E320, that's a different story...

tru story

I have raced one of these before, and he was on it from the get go, there is no way you are even staying close to this guy if he was trying.

You need to put the crack pipe down and step away, Pooky...

There is no way on God's green earth you could get an inch on the guy at all unless he was fast asleep at the wheel. My 86y/o grandmother could even hand your a$$ to you in that car...

No doubt. Even those monstrous torque numbers trounces our horsepower ratings

Yeah no way; it took my friend in his full bolt on LS-1 TA with a stall and on spray to stick by the back door of an E55 AMG from a dead stop.

Your guy just didn't want to waste his tires (or gas) ...

$80K on a vehicle is a waste of money and a very unnecessary expenditure. I don't care if you are Puff Daddy or Vince Neil or some shit.

If I could afford the E55... i would ditch this POS TL in a heartbeat! I love the '55 ... why work so hard in life if you can't enjoy the rewards of life sometimes... the '55 is one of those rewards for me.. .. so is a nice vaction, a beach front property ... lots of things...

Just b/c one person thinks $80k is a waste of money doesn't make him right by any stretch. That's just his opinion (I hate to be talking to people like we're fifth graders... but sometimes it's necessary) .. and I really don't care for it.

It is a bunch of 5th graders. Acura has a huge image problem and these people with no clue are part of the problem.

How old R U? Well answer me this, an Accord is just as good as our cars. We get a couple extra bells and whistles. They are built right next to one another. So why didn't YOU get an Accord, since I guess we are wasting money, since the basic same car could be had for less?????

If 80k is a waste, I hate to see what u think of 300k vehicles. You just sound like, whats the term, "a hater".

You sound like an Accountant. To MANY, a $35,000 Honda sedan is a 'waste of money' and a 'very unnecessary expediture'. If you want to focus on what's practical, get a Honda Civic.

Better yet:

That said, welcome to the world of car enthusiasts. Check the beancounting at the door.

What does age have to do with anything? My age is right under my name.

We get more than a couple of extra bells and whistles, and a similarly equipped Accord will cost about 29K, for an extra 2K for what we get in return, it is worth it.

I feel the same way about a 300K car as I feel about an 80K car. A complete waste of money. I sound like a hater? Please explain that to me.

There is no way you can argue that 80K on a car is a waste of money. You can however, argue that you believe that it's ok to waste 80K on a car. I'm not trying to tell everyone what they should do with their money and most people will know that already. I really don't care what anyone else does with their money, I just have different views and better things to do with my money than waste it. I understand people wanting to have nice things because they worked hard for their money. I just don't always agree with their choices of "nice things."

Hey, I have that bike I agree, my Acura is also a waste of money, but not a complete waste of money. It still falls within the reasonable realm of wasted money. What's pratical depends on your situation, and a Civic is just not practical for alot of people, but I hear what you are saying.

Well, if a 80k car is a waste, so is a 30k car. A corolla or civic makes perfect transportation. If you didn't want to TRULY waste money as you state, it makes no financial sense to buy a 35k TL when your 25. Dump that money into a home or invest it and watch the money grow. Most ANY car= poor investment.

That is why I asked how old are you. If your parents bought your car, I understand.

because new 65 aren't MANUAL (THEY ARE AUTOMATICS) , thus drew away alot of buyers.

also, it's just amazes me that the thread orignator said he had an head start on the E55, FYI, go to this link www.visionboy.com and click the COMPILATION 1 VIDEO, there is a clip of a TURBO-CHARGED IS300, that barely beats a stock E55

IMHO, age of a person does not have too much to do in this matter.

It's more of how you are, how you've always been living you life, and your priorities.

I, maybe able to buy a BMW 745 iL, if I reduce some of my (and my family's) life's luxuries; or I can just get a Civic and use the saving to get me a HDTV or Harley.

I bought the TL because I think for what I was getting out of the car (not just the car itself) and what I needed to pay, it's a no-brainer.

I used to hate the commute. Now I sometimes take the longer route to work, since I like te TL so much.

My $0.02

Why would you even mention a race with an E55. Those cars cost 80k and can run side by side with a Ferrari 360 on the drag strip. Lets not get carried away.

Simple!! I just want to compare the performance difference in between $80K car vs. $35K car. Yes, I wish I could win E55 AMG.

Most ANY car= poor investment.

That is why I asked how old are you. If your parents bought your car, I understand.
I already conceded that point in my earlier post. A 30K is a waste of money, however it is not a complete waste of money. It is still a reasonable amount of money to spend on a vehicle that gets driven 25K miles/yr. A Civic or Corolla can transport from point A to point B. A compact car cannot transport myself, three clients or collegues, and any equipment I might need. There is a major difference in practicality between a Compact car and a mid-size car. A small car just cannot do what I need to get done on a daily basis.

You also do not know what my financial situation is to infer that it doesn't make financial sense for me to spend 30K on a car. What does it matter what age I am? It doesn't matter, plain and simple. I am lucky to have a good job, that I love, and I'm good at it. I have been dumping my money into investments since I was 15 and make 5.00/hr working at a deli. I value every dollar I have, because each one was paid for with my sweat.

I apologize for the rant, but I felt that young, dumb and full of cum shit coming from you.

Enjoy your E55, sir.

its rediculous to say, "80k is waste of money for car even if you are puffy daddy." its all relative. an e55 to puff daddy is .000001% of his net worth, while an acura TL to you might be 10%, which is the greater waste of money.
