New owner
I just brought a silver 04 acura tl w/ navigation+aspec lip 128k for 7800. Unfortunately its an automatic from a female in her early 30s. Everything seem fine so far beside a slight vibration in the cold start ( search up and it seem normal for these type of engine) not sure if the 105k service been done. how long can i hold off on the timing belt and waterpump . how much would it roughly cost me . I would like to avoid going to the dealership. Is it a bad idea to go local with the repair? thanks!

how much do you have to spend for an engine? you really should have gotten the info from the previous owner as to whether the TB etc was changed. so...you could have peace of mind...
costs for TB service varies across the board. some have bought the TB parts kit and taken it to the dealer or their indy dealer or the honda dealer and had them do the install. the kit is running about $300. labor...a few hundred (read $300) to $800. acura dealers have been quoted as low as $1000 to $2400 (parts and labor). honda dealers have been quoted as low as $500 (specials) to $1500. you would need to call around to indy shops that specialize in acuras/hondas, as well as honda and acura dealers for pricing. look for coupons or specials. then you can go to whoever you feel comfy with. just keep in mind you pay for what you get.

Go to dealership unless you know of a trusted mechanic that you have personally used in the past or one that is refereed to you as reputed and trusted guy. I would never take my chances taking it to some random mechanic unless I had word of mouth recommendation or he had a good history with me. Otherwise, take it to a dealer. Post your location.

Welcome!
You need to contact the woman who had the car previously to see if the 105k service has been done.

Why would you pay to have it done AGAIN if the previous owner already had it done? Just call her and double check.
And yes, the price of the car is fair.

nope the 105k message only pop up that at mileage and won't show up again until another 105k miles. Just get a mechanic check out and make sure there is nothing wrong with the car.

i feel like she would've remembered if the 105k was done that was an expensive service, if i were u i would get it done, if it breaks u may be facing a bigger problem then just changing the tb right now

or you can spend $35 or have the dealer send you a copy of carfax and see if the TB/WP already been done.

I check the car fax and there nothing much on it and the previous owner got the car after 105k. and she got no contact with the previous owner which is the first owner. i will have my mechanic check it out. worse come to worse i just change the timing belt+waterpump. i got a quote for 675 part+labor OEM so far. At least when i change it, i will be worry free and have proof for future reference =P. transmission shift smoothly

1) no it is NOT a direct fit. for the 04-06 guys have used the 03-05 accord fog lights and modified them to fit into the grill. search guitarplayer16 and fog lights (he wrote up a DIY for it).
2) run a search...i'm sure someone has done this.

Does the MID give a code? It could be a sign, if not her, someone had reset the "105k" code. (Whether they actually did the service is another thing..)
Doesnt hurt to contact her regarding it. Did the car come with records?
If the dealer prices seem too high, look up a japanese specialist indy shop. You can find a few on yelp.com based on your location. If you are in the socal area I know of a shop that does good work at a reasonable price.
