MID Complete Reset
MID Complete Reset
Since I just purchased a used 2006 TL (108,000 miles), I wanted all service items completely up to date including Timing belt, plugs, coolant, air filter, cabin filter, transmission 3x3. I don't trust the previous owner did all of the maintenance and simply reset the MID. Is there a way I can now reset the MID for all items to start counting down now? I have searched and see how to reset the oil life and any other items that are due soon but can I reset everything even if it didn't show it was needed? I want it to start counting from now so everything will be at the right interval going forward.
I doubt there's a way to do it with normal tools. You need a way to clear the non volatile memory inside the system to "wipe" the data (i.e. pulling the battery for an indefinite amount of time will not clear the MID). It probably operates on the same principle as your digital odometer.
In other words, just do the easy stuff yourself like misc filters, oil, fluids. for peace of mind. Inspect your suspension and axle/CV joints. What makes you think the previous owner neglected it? Check the brake fluid...is it black? Grey? Or is it clear/amber? If it's black or grey, you might have some cause for concern. If the latter, it's an indication there was at least some work done in its lifetime. Ideally your brake fluid should be clear like water.
You're really not missing much by the MID otherwise. The only thing you can do is confirm the timing belt job and associated maintenance has been done, and do the easy stuff yourself as a pseudo refresh/maintenance point. Then go from there whenever the MID comes up.
