well I'm new to this so i may be posting in the wrong area, but i recently purchased an 06 Anthracite TL. Im thinking of getting the a spec kit, but i don't have a whole lot of money to blow so I'm not sure if i should get the full kit or just the front lip. Would it look odd with just the front lip spoiler? I'm not too crazy about the rear lip that is why I'm even considering getting just the front. Also I'm looking to go shopping for a new set of 18" wheels and tires, anyone know any good site that can give me a good deal if i buy it all together? i know RJ has some nice wheels, but they're a tad expensive. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated =)

i would get the full kit or nothing. it looks incomplete without the entire kit installed.

what kind of wheels are you interested in? check out the tire/wheel/suspension section and see what you like. PLENTY of options out there. it's all about your budget and personal preference.

welcome to the money pit.

He's right. I was debating just getting the front lip at first myself. Then I saw a car with a full kit, and after my eyegasm I realized: it's all or nothing.Welcome!

I agree, get the full kit.

For wheels, if you want acura a-spec then check the blackmarket. You can find personal sales or vendor sales that are good deals.

It's really a no brainer. If money is an option, just get the front at first. See how long you can go like that. The front is the most noticeable piece anyway - and you're probably going to see the front 3/4 of your car more than anything else.

That's what I did - and I'm ok with it. Next mod is coilovers - something useful.

Skimping on price can have some bad side effects. Come by our Yonkers, NY warehouse and I'm sure we have some wheels that can be purchased a discounted price. Call me to schedule the visit and we can work it out.

OP I would against couple people on here....

If money is tight then just get the front lip...I rocked only the front lip for more than 2 years and then put on the rear type-s lip on a 2005 TL....I still dont have side skirts...they might come in next year

About rims...RJ is the best bang for the buck....price and quality are very well built into every rim....wish i knew about this website before I ordered rims....

if you find those expensive then hit up some online website where you find some Enkie's or XXr's for like 150-200 bucks a rim (18")....

A lot of people find my logic wrong (about doing one piece at a time) but honestly the car should not be a burden....if cash is tight be smart about it....dont put everything on a credit card and in the next few months sell it for cheap on BM just coz u cudnt handle the $$$ pressure....anyway thats just me

I agree with swoosh. Piece-by-piece is okay in the short run, but you'll end up paying a lot more in the long run if you buy each piece of the aspec kit separately.

Also PM AckTL05 to see if he can get you a deal on Aspec rims if you like them...He had them for sale, and might have a few sets left

So far I have paid 400-450 for the front and the rear lip....waiting it out means waiting for a good deal

Plus, piece by piece gives you an option like I have the base front and the type-s rear lip....if you buy the full kit, you dont have that options....just saying

The full kit sells for 760, so far am on track LOL....

OP, its cheaper to get the aspec as a package as opposed to seperate times. You will realized you could have saved hundreds i learned it the hard way

My recommendation -

  1. There is nothing mechanically wrong with your car so save the cash until you can buy the entire kit at once.
  2. Take Rondy up on his offer to drive up to Yonkers. He is a stand up guy.
  3. Winter is coming. No point dropping a lot of cash on a body kit and wheels just before winter in Queens. Unless you plan on keeping it in a garage.

I am in the same kind of situation, but I didn't want to flood AZ with a new topic. I hate being on this site and seeing all of these amazing mods for the TL, but I have to keep myself tied up and safe distance from the money pit... Anyways, I am getting the TL for my first car and I think some mods would look great on the car, but I don't want to be spending my money on a lost cause. In other words, when in college, I'll be selling the TL to put toward my first-bought car. Question is: should I drop ~$2k on some sick mods (most of which won't add any value to the car when ready to sell) or save my money and drive a stock TL (I have no issue with that, though the ASPEC kit looks damn nice!) while saving my money to buy a nicer car in the future.

if money is tight, don't bother modding your car.
there is no point to starve yourself just to make ur car look cool, save the money first until you have enough for both modding and living, i only allow myself one mod per month, i started the first month with tint, then LEDs, RSB.....etc

For big project like bodykits or coilovers, I would try to save good amount of money which may take 2 to 3 months....
sorry if any of my statements sound harsh but i m just not the kind of person who would pour the whole entire paycheck into the car every month, i dont make shit load of money but i no my limit, and i definitely dont wanna financially torture myself only cuz i want my car to look cool, there is point to look cool with an empty pocket, plus don't forget the money for gas, insurance and any possibly breakdowns!!!
u got all the time in the world if u plan to drive it for a long time so there is really no need to rush now

^---- if i could do it all over again, i would probably not have poured the $12k in mods i did to my '99 civic back in the day (while I was a college student) and used it towards something else.

Now that I'm older and wiser (and have a mortgage), I've learned to pull back a bit.

That money would be better spent in a savings/investment account because most likely, you'll purchase another car (or house/etc) after college.

But by no means, have fun with the car... Stash a LITTLE on the side as a car fund and use that at your discretion (mods/repairs/etc).

Just my

PS - Whole kit or nothing. It'll be harder and harder to find the individual pieces as the car gets older.

^^^ you guys are OLD....

at any given point, modding/repairing your car is cheaper than buying a new car....I mod my car coz even after 5 years of owning her, I feel its has something new to offer me....

yeah, I have put in ~10-12K on her myself haha....but I bought her preowned....so still cheaper than buyin a new car....

yes, once I have a mortgage and stuff my yearly "car budget" will go down but then your priorities change....and for all we remember we live ONCE....and never know when our times up, so LIVE ALL YOU CAN, WHILE YOU CAN

Ha, got lost reading this thread and didn't realize how old it is. Saw the title of the thread and figured it was another newbie to azine. I have a mortgage now and can definitly say that moding the TL is going to be slow and piece by piece. Can't wait for tax return, so i can finally complete the aspec kit.

I'm on the group buy for some coil overs so il have those by march and this summer I'm going to get wheels. I'm getting those last because its really tough choosing nice wheels and getting them to sit right. right now I'm between getting 17x9.5 et 15 battles or 18x8.75 et20 xxr 530's.. ahhh decisions decisions

woohoo, just turning 21 this April =D. I'm trying to enjoy this car as much while not spending too much cash while i can. before shit gets too serious >_<.. college and full time work is tough as it is. imagine having a family and mortgage
