New Here - 05 TL 5AT

Hey everyone,

I just bought a used TL with 46k miles a few weeks ago, already have it up to 52k miles. Got the extended Acura Care warranty from Saccuci Honda for 1120 for 48mo/48k miles.

I'm thinking of canceling the warranty due to the amount I drive. My previous car racked up 50k miles a year. I say I'm going to cut down on it, but as you can see, a few weeks and I'm already 6k miles up the ladder. Which means my 4 year warranty, could end up lasting me less than a year.

However, I purchased the warranty due to knowing that the transmissions in these cars aren't that great, and my A/C compressor just started to make kind of a whirring noise. I need to have the P/S recall addressed as well, which my dealer thinks I might be 'hearing'. I don't have a clue.

I know Acura is pretty good about standing behind their products out of warranty, if the service records are good and complete. What do you think?

Should I refund for my $1120 back? Or did I make a worthy purchase? The warranty is good for 97995 miles, or 4 years, from this date.

I have good faith in Honda/Acura as a whole... but can't help but be a little nervous.

My miles are 100% highway, if that means anything to you. I came from a 2004 Volvo with 150k miles on it. - All of which I proudly put on.

You have to make the call, not us.
I never got nor never would get any sort of warranty I had to pay for.
They are designed to make money.

Hiway miles are good miles, and dont count like normal miles, only on a few parts like tires.
There is very little wear on things once things are warmed up and you are running at speed.

I think the transmission is the only thing you have to worry about, and that seems to be pot luck...

I would see if you can get more mileage with less years. The TL is really reliable, but when an electronic breaks, you will have a 500+ dollar repair bill. If you have a navi system, the dvd drive in the trunk is 2K alone, so if that breaks one day within warranty, you get your money back plus more.

No navi on mine... Acura Care only allows me to get 4 years/ 48k miles.

I'm not fond of aftermarket warranty companies, they go bankrupt all the time. A little scary.

50k miles a year is a lot ... I only put on 5k a year if not less. $1,120 for only one year of coverage, in your case, is expensive. I don't think the 05 TL or later models are known to have any transmission problem. The 03s, though, are notorious! Stop driving so much. Save gas, save the environment, and your wallet

I don't drive for fun.

Gotta make money, lawyer here.

I thought the tranny issues were pre-05, which is why I wasn't ever interested in the 04. But my car is an early build 05, which I could see making it not much better than an 04. Idk though.

I'm canceling it now, going to use the money to spend on my son's Accord instead. He's been begging for his timing belt or something like that.
