Question The New Guy!!

Hey guys, names adan. Im thinking of buying a 2004 tl with 118,000 miles on the clock. guy wants 9500 for it but its got some kind of vibration and shaking at low rpms..... so he let me test drive it and it runs ok at high rpms but when your at a light or at a stop, is when u feel the light shaking. so i took it to get checked out and it looks like it needs spark plugs. from what the codes for the check engin light. Its miss firing in cylkiners 1-3. what do u guys think?? should i pull the triger???? or am i opening a can of worms!!! pics soon to come..

I don't know man, not that things couldn't be fixed, but who knows what damage could have already been done. I say pass and look for another TL where the owner has actually maintained the car.

Welcome btw

There could also be unseen problems the owner isnt telling you. I'd pass.

There are plenty of better TLs out there.

Going on 3 months now. did a vin # check and it came back clean. they only put 17,000 miles on it from 2010 to 2012. i know its going to need a timing belt and water pump. just wanted to know if this issues could b/c the car has been sitting for a while....? i went to the stealership and they want like 12,000.. just thinking if it will cost me 1000 to fix it is it worth it. really love this body style!!!

What are some issues to look for with a car this year and with 118,000 miles on the clock??? i think im still on trial period. so i dont know if i can post pics... if not i could post some of the car im still trying to work a deal with this couple! and by the way. why im so interested in this car is b/c it was this guys wifes car!

Why buy something that have problems even tho is for a good price.. the money that you are gonna end up spending is gonna be the same thing as buying one in a better condition. I'm just saying....

New spark plugs and o2 Sensor Changed! the only thing I would have to do is tanny flush! And find out what fuel they used! Wish I knew how the F to post pics!! LOL.

And thanks MRTASTYGOODY for the input!! And every one else!!!

Was looking for more detail input of what to also look for in a car with this many miles. But I will take any input at this point! And hope to be here for good!!!

Look for cracks in the dash, excessive wear on the seats, any long pauses between going from park to reverse or from reverse to drive, etc.

The hood doesn't look like it's fitting properly. Plus it looks to have red calipers with red on the centercap meaning someone has messed with it before.

I have seen used cars come in with that shaky low rpm problem and just reduced the gap on the plugs and it ran perfect.

It could very well just need plugs. Thats a 105k part change so if they didn't do any 105k maintenance then you may be able to get a good car for sale price + maintenace of just under 1000.00 or better if you do it yourself.
