New To the Group...This is my story!

I am from New York. Go to school in Rhode Island. I currently drive a 2001 Mustang GT. I was looking for a new car and was very close to getting a 2001 Audi A4 1.8T when my dad informed me that his friend is getting rid of a 04 TL. It is silver with black interior. 5AT with no nav. It only has 10k and i am getting a great deal on it so i decided to do it. I am so excited to receive the car which i am expecting in late august. I test drove one last week and absolutely fell in love with the car. Just wanted to introduce myself cause i love the board. I learn many new things here and hopefully i can be a nice addition to it.

Dave,

Welcome to our little family of folks who own or are interested in learning more about the Acura TL.

Take a look at the first page of the 3rd Gen forum and you will see a couple of sticky threads which deal with oft repeated questions and answers like in the 3G TL GARAGE. If you don't find what you need there, ask away. Our members have a wealth of knowledge and experience and what they don't know, they will make up. (Just Kidding!)

Good to have you aboard.

Welcome. The TL will be a nice step up from the Mustang interior amenity and room-wise. With 10k, it'll also be ripe to replace those lousy EL42 tires that it almost certainly has had since day 1. Since you're in an area that features winter, I'd go (and I have) with a really nice all-season tire like the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S.

Congratulations...

Dave,

While everyone is welcoming your arrival, would you like to share a little info why your father's friend tried to get rid of this car? Have you been test-driving his car yet? Do you know the last 6 digit (034xxx) VIN #? ...............................................

He is forced to get rid of the car. He has sold my father another car in the past and the car has had no problems at all! A CLK 55 AMG...absolutely gorgeous. So its definately someone that we can trust, but thank you for the concern!

We're just curious about the VIN so we can determine if this TL is one of the earlier builds which "might" have a few more minor problems than a later build date. That's all. If we knew roughly when it was built, we can give you more advice of things to look for.

Hey, I have smoked 5.0 and 4.6 Mustangs in my 6mt '04(rolling start). I'm sure the auto is just as fast as a stock 5.0(on the go, not off the line).

Dave if it was purchased in October its an early build. Im sure all the guys that had some of the minor minor problems can tell you what to look for. If you do find the stuff its all warranty work anyways so nothing to worry about. It would be nice to find it before you take over the lease and can have the current owner do all the driving around to the service center.

I think the main problems in the early builds were
1. Flat spotting Tires
2. Falling head liner
3. misc. rattles
4. leather butt prints in the seats
5. Transmission Recall for the oil jet mod.
I think thats it but I might have missed a couple. Hope this helps

Nope, the 04TL is definitely no Mustang GT.

It's much better than that!!!

Now a Cobra. That is a different story.

kilrb: I think by the numbers, the TL matches the GT to 60. and it gets 20/30 mileage, oh yeah, and is ULEV-2, and it does it with a V6..
