New Greenstuff Brakes....squeel!!!

I just had my brake pads replaced yesterday with Greenstuff brake pads, I have a 6MT (brembo's). I did manage to get 49400 miles out of the OEM which I guess is pretty good. Anyway, every time I hit my brakes they screech like crazy. Anyone who replaced with these pads, is this normal? I romped on them once or twice and it seems as though when they heat up a little they stop screeching and then start when they cool off. I will say these pads are a lot more grippy then the OEM's, or maybe it's just my old pads were worn out.

hmmm, my buddy put red stuff on, I think those are full ceramic and they dont squeel at all...

when its time Im going with red stuff.

did you seat them correctly? I think with the stuff pads they have specific directions for how to seat them or burn them in or whatever the hell you call it........I think, dont quote me on this...

Ive put green stuff on alot of dallas members cars, CL's and TL's and havent heard any issues. Im not sure whats going on with yours... rotors maybe

To induce brake squeal you should apply some grease to the pads shims, also everytime you replace your pads you should either have the rotors resurfaced or replaced! Rotors may be the cause of your squeal if they werent serviced.

My guess is that you didn't bed them in. I did some extensive writeups about this very topic last year when I installed Rotex Gold Kevlar pads on my '04 manual TL.

I used Greenstuff v3's on my past couple Audi's without any issues. No squeaking and cut down on my dusting tremendously.

Did you get new rotors, get your old ones cut, or just do a pad swap? If you just did a pad swap that could explain the noise.

I had the rotors cut. According to the box it says to go easy on them for the first hundred miles. All I know is my rims are just as black as the OEM's. In fact I think they got dirty alot quicker. The only thing I can think of is they're being broken in. I've been driving it and it doesn't seem to squeel as loud.

Good rotor and pad bedding instruction from MrHeelToe here

http://heeltoeauto.com/httech/YaBB.pl?num=1184261899

dont drag the brakes- they are not fred flintstones feet
Use them to reduce speed- then coast - then use again
dragging causes overheat more than hard use

They will make some noise durring the breakin process. They have a breakin coating on them. After a few hundred miles they should be quiet. Ive never had noise from any of mine past 500 miles.

New pads (hi-perf) contain a component (chemical) which aids their shelf life. During the bedding in process, several things take place.

The pads "gas out".. that is to say, they give up the above mentioned component.

As a result of the heat generated during bedding in, a glaze from the new pads will be deposited on the surface of the rotors. This glaze is important as it will "match" the new pads.

The tiny grooves and imperfections of the rotor will transfer to the new pads, thereby virtually eliminating squeal.

If you want to see the writeups I did, do a search on "Rotex Gold" and look for my postings between April and June of 2006. You might find them helpful and interesting.
