New Car, Road trip question.
New Car, Road trip question.
I just got my 06 Auto/Nav last week and it currently only has 150 miles on it. I'm about to take a short road trip from NYC to Atlantic City this weekend. Is it safe to say go at 70mph with still so little mileage on it? If not whats a good "safe" speed since it still new?
Thanks,
Henry

Their is way to much concern over the "break in period". Most of the critical engine wear-in takes place in the first 50 miles. At 150 miles just drive it nicely/normally on your road trip. 70mph will not hurt it a bit - just do like the manual suggests and refrain from hard acceleration/stops. Hard being full throttle, moderate acceleration on the other hand is good for the rings etc. during the initial wear-in.
After about 500-600 miles start to gradually drive like you will "want" to drive etc. - slowly introduce the car/engine to your driving style. Of course if your like me, most of the time that would be about the same way I drove at my TL's 300 mile point....
Enjoy your new TL during your upcoming road trip.
Cheers
I really doubt it make much difference after the first 100 miles, as long as you avoid full throttle red line operation, or bogging the motor. Its best to vary the engine load and speed a bit, maybe get off the parkway half way and take RT 9,
its senic and more fun (down South) than the parkway.

You can do it. As others have said, do not use cruise control and vary your speed over a range (say 65-80MPH). This will help seat the pistons rings in. Also do not do sudden stops unless necesary to help bed in the brake pads and rotors.

My dealer told me to avoid "jack-rabbit" starts, sudden stops and traveling at the same speed/gear for extended periods of time prior to hitting 500 miles on the odometer. I'm actually at 470 miles right now and I'm anxious to get over the "break-in" period to see what the TL has!
That's the best way to break in your new car!
When I had purchased my car in NJ, I drove over 1000 miles from the dealership to my house. Just do like they say . . . vary your speed, go easy on the brakes, and no cruise control. Get on/off the exits as often as you can to get a good break-in for the gears.

drive it carefully on your way to AC. stop at the Borgata. put all your money on Black. Win lots of money. drive the piss out of (like you stole it), stop at FC Kerbeck. trade it in for a Bentley Continental GT. then, drive that carefully back to NY.

I just leave the thing there and just fly back
