New car

Hate to leave the forum but my wife surprised me and traded in the acura. I was so mad because of all the time and effort I've put into it but I would like to thank everybody for the help. This is a great forum. We now have a 2014 jeep grand Cherokee

Good luck, she went from one of the most reliable cars on the road to one of the most unreliable. At least you have a warranty.

You should surprise her by returning the Jeep and getting your Acura back.

What's with guys wife's doing weird things on the forum today? Lol. First it's the dudes wife that ran off and spent nearly two grand on timing belt service, now this one she just straight up traded in your car LOL.
However, I will say you guys made a great decision. The 2014 Grand Cherokee's are awesome. I will probably be getting a 2014 Overland for my wife at some point. I had a 2012 Overland and it was great for the year and 10,000 miles I owned it. Zero issues and was built very well. Some of the early built 2014's had electrical gremlins with all the changes made to that year, but those all seem to be straightened out now as long as you didn't buy an early build.
They are great trucks and jeepgarage . Org is a bad ass forum as well as wk2jeeps . Com for tons of info.

Agreed- seems odd to trade in a car with no warning. If one wife got taken for $1800 on a timing belt, I hate to think how much this 'trade' cost. There's ample opportunity to get screwed on trade-in and purchase price. The Jeeps are nice- just not sure how great JGC's are after warranty expires. Good luck!

The new jeeps are nice options wise, but total shit when it comes to reliability/durability. The 2014s are stacked with issues, many with the touchscreen system (think losing radio, climate controls, nav, etc...all at once), trans is awful (and off-pavement capability is laffable, the new explorer schools it over similar terrain from first hand experience). With a borderline 40k or more pricetag they are quite the opposite of a good move.

I'm sure you'll enjoy driving all the loaner jeeps.

OP I would be pissed off. Joking aside the wife and I are equal partners and my wife will never trade in my or her car w/o telling me first and asking for my opinion. My wife knows about cars as (has an Evo) so she understands the value, repairs, etc, but doing this is a a joint decision - unless she wears the pants (nothing wrong w/ that haha)

This isn't a counseling thread people nor is it a thread to bash the Cherokee. :o

If I had to choose a 3G TL or a brand new Cherokee, I would choose the Jeep 10/10 times.

I didn't think this was a public opinion poll either. Trading cars is an expensive proposition- just hope the trade was worth it.

I just can't agree with this. First off yes the early built 2014's suffered electrical issues, but these have seemed to be fixed now and earlier models can be reflashed and it seems most guys on the forums are having success. Not sure where you came up with the durability portion. What's not durable about the Hemi, the Pentastar v6, or the proven 4wd system? My 2012 Overland was rock solid.
I have not read a single post stating that the new 8spd transmission is awful. Where did you hear this from? People love it so far!!

What's laughable is you saying that a new Explorer is better than the Jeep off-road. Wtf were you driving a base V6 Laredo 2wd? Even that should be better than the fwd car based platform Explorer. The quadradrive and adjustable air suspension IMO are excellent. The interior of the Overland rivals the best out there as well.

I don't know, a lot of people on this forum are claiming how horrible this vehicle is, but these comments are coming from people that have never owned one. I had a 2012 Overland and it was amazing. I would without a doubt sell my 10,000 mile mint 6mt Type S for a new 2014 Overland if my wife said I could ;-)

people are still stuck on yesteryears Jeep's.

well, we cant rely on that any more because; hyundai and kia is now a prominent player in the auto game. Ford has done magical things with their eco-boost, and tons of other major improvements across the board.

wake up, people. your precious honda/acura is now lower than a kia.

Yeah I kinda figured it was opinions based on how they used to be. I can't change people's minds, but in my experience it was an awesome vehicle and I would buy a 2014 tomorrow if I could. Your right about the Kia's and Hyundai's as well. I haven't owned one but I know not to knock the new ones because they are quality vehicles.

Well it was her car but I pretty much made it mine because she never drove it. I was saving up for a lot more things to put in that car rims, exhaust. But I got all my stuff out of the car that's a good thing. I like the jeep but I hate the transmission the way it shifts. But I guess I'll get used to it

I wouldn't say lower really. My neighbor has a 2014 Kia Optima, turbo model, fully loaded. It does have a few more electronic doodads and is a VERY nice car. But I would hesitate to say that it is all out 'better' than my 9 year old Acura with 140,000 miles on it. My old and 'precious' 3GTL can still outrun this turbo to 80 mph (Turbo lag killed the KIA off the start but even once it got going it couldn't make up the difference, at least not to 80 mph) and my Acura was quieter inside at speed as well. Not much but enough to notice. My neighbor used to own a 2003 TL-S and the KIA reminds him a lot of that car, only with many more electronic doodads and hopefully less transmission issues.

Like I said, it is a VERY nice car and KIA really has come a very long way in the past 10 years. If I were looking at new cars right now I would definitely consider it. But the 3GTL still stands up against the brand new KIA very well which says a lot about the 3GTL. It will be interesting to see how well the KIA's hold up over 100,000 miles like the Honda's/Acura's do.

My opinion does not come from bench racing either. The first weekend that he had the car we actually spent time comparing and driving his brand new KIA to my 3GTL back to back.

One last thing, The KIA has a very small diameter steering wheel. It felt weird and plasticky too. His wife loves the small wheel but he is not a big fan, neither was I. His wife is the primary driver of the car though.

Enjoy the Jeep.

You don't have to leave AZ, either-- you can get roasted and abused [even more] over in Ramblings , discuss the Jeep over in Car Talk, and even come in here to give us the benefit of your knowledge on the 3G TL.
I think about a quarter of the regulars in 3G TL don't even own one at present.

What model Grand Cherokee did you guys get? Laredo, Limited, Overland, Summit? I assume not an SRT because you would have stated that lol. I owned a 2012 which still had the 5spd auto, but when I test drove a 2014 Overland I thought the tranny shifted pretty nice, but maybe I didn't drive it long enough. I know guys on the forums turn off Eco mode and they like it a lot more. Also, if yours is an early build there are flashes for the car which fix a lot of the complaints guys had about shifting. Something to keep in mind.
I love that huge 8.4" nav screen that controls everything and the screen in the gauge cluster look awesome.

I work at a dealer, driven both first hand in identical conditions. Specifically, 13 Grand Cherokee Limited vs. 13 Explorer Limited. The Explorer scaled a snow covered hill no problem while the Jeep struggled even with the trans in 4 wheel low & snow mode. And for the money, a Tahoe takes them both to school. My manager has been driving a 14 Grand Cherokee for most of a year (and 20k+ miles) now, and constantly has issues with the electronics even after several reflashes. Jeep/Dodge/Chrysler transmissions have had more issues in my experience than any other.

haha nope, only exclusive dealer I've worked at was Nissan. I actually work remarketing/resale for enterprise and stock just about every make and model. I'm not biased one way or another for or against jeep/ford/chevy, merely reporting my experience.

I owned an 06 SRT8 GC and honestly I hated it although the new ones are 1000x times better in build quality. My 2006 was the biggest pile of shit I have ever owned... granted it was stupid fast as it would put down 0-60 in 4.54 second's per the diablosport tuner and embarrass most sports cars on the road. Cheap interior plastics that looked and felt like it was made in the late 90's, dash board lights would work whenever they wanted to, constant tpms errors, the 20in Alcoa wheels have a flaw that in cold temperatures the metal would shrink and cause all 4 corners to lose air, all wheel drive system made terrible clunking/moaning/whining sounds that everyone on the forums said was "normal", beyond atrocious gas mileage and yes that was to be expected but it was way worse than I initially thought it would be, seat heaters stopped working, adjustable petals got stuck all the way to the floor, radio worked when it wanted to and the interior door handles were breaking out of the door panels. Also the interior bits rattled like a German tank and drove me up the freaking wall!

I had more issues that I could go on about but this wasn't just my Jeep as others have these problems but don't really talk about it because everyone thinks those Jeep's are god's among cars. They are actually shit.
