New to the board with question.

Hello all. I've been perusing this board for a while and just purchased an 05 TL on the 16th. So happy with my new toy!

I wondered if anyone has found the Splash Guards to be worthwhile?? I live in RI where it has snowed furiously the last couple of winters. I'm thinking of getting these things, but wondered how other people feel about them.

Help a gal out.

I wouldn't be without them. They do a great job of keeping the side of the car clean and free of rock chips.

I have a white diamond pearl and hardly notice them, so if you have a dark colored car, you would notice them even less.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your wise choice.

If you put 'em on, don't plan on taking them off. It'll "eat" through the clearcoat where the splash guards contact the car.

But they do certainly keep the side skirts and the rear clean from mud, dirt, debris, etc.

I have an 04 RRP with the splash guards. They really do help in keeping the crap off the side of the car. They also match the color of the tires.

Congratulations on your new car! My WDP came with the mud guards and I find that they do help keep the side of the car cleaner. I do not know how they would work in the snow as it never snows in my area.

They certainly do keep the side skirts and the sides of the rear bumper clean... but they also eat into the clearcoat. So, if you're going to put them on, then don't plan on taking them off. I had mine on for 4800 miles, and it's already doing it.

Splash guards get the job done if you ask me. Not to mention they actually look good on the car.....

I live in central Ohio and we get enough snow in the winter to make driving messy. The spalsh guards really have no value in the winter (other than being a place for road junk to collect). So I wouldn't get them just for winter driving. They do, as stated above, keep crud off the bottom of your TL and I like the look of them.

They are great. I've had them for 2 winters in Canada and they look like new. No salt or rock chips anywhere.

splash guards only help reduce all the crap that gets kicked up on the car. Nothing will keep the finish on the car in show room condition other than not driving the car or only in perfect weather on great road surfaces...

Hey Apple... Here is a thread I started a while back that has some comments regarding your question...

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...ighlight=guard

Small snip-it: "All in all, the guards on this car "work better" than ones I've had on other cars or some other ones I've noticed while driving."

Hope this helps...

I too plan on getting the guards with the car as I am also in the New England area, I also plan on getting the 3M clear bra and headlight rock guards. I think they look fine, no matter the color, although it would be nice if they were color matched. Is there anything that can be done to save the clearcoat for those of us too lazy to take them off monthly to wax the wheel wells, IE felt in between them?

I used to have the splash guards. They worked well. Go for it.

Of course, I took them off when I got the OEM bodykit though. I still miss them when I see how dirty my side skirts get.

I guess I'm the only one around here who thinks that the mud guards are ugly. IMO, it takes away from the luxury look of the exterior. I haven't noticed my car getting any more dirty without them.

Have your clear-bra installer place some of the 3M stuff where the guards rest.

You're not alone...they're tacky.

I don't notice the sides of my car getting particularly dirty, either, and I have the OEM body kit...of course, when I wash the car, I wash the underside of the kit, but it has no more junk on it than the rest of the car...the front bumper is the worst.

If you get them, consider painting them the color of the car...a couple of people here have done that and it looks better than a flat black piece of plastic hanging off the car.

Get them - they keep tar off the lower panels.

I've added them on my '99 and '05 TLs after periods without, and I like the looks as well as the reduction in tar and other crud that would splash on the metal in the area behind them.

Great responses. Thank you. I'm inspired to get them. Since the car is black, they'll match. Oh, black car how difficult you are to keep clean...

Get'em

I put them in my spankin new TL last week. After washing my TL this weekend I was peeved to see a yard sprinkler soaked road ahead w/no room to slow down... Oh well, splatter all over the freshly cleaned car. NOT - after I got home I was surprised to see that the splash guards kept 100% of the kick-up/spray from the water off my freshly washed TL - they work VERY well.

I agree. As I always say in these threads, on my 2G TL the front mud flaps cut through the clearcoat. Not cool. i don't have them, and don't miss them. To each, his own...

I have them on my NBP. You don't really notice them unless you do a sloppy job waxing the car and get wax on them, in which case the little white streaks show up until you clean it off.... I've been satisfied with them.
