New to Azine and new to the TL

Hey guys,

(this was originally posted in Performance section but i figured it was probably in the wrong spot lol)

I am new to the sight and new to the Acura world. I have always had fast cars but never an Acura, so when my girlfriend got the RDX SH AWD turbo I was hooked. Now I have the 05 TL with 40k miles and I purchased it for 16k. its the base with MT, DMM in color with the stock chromes. I know I will do some mods to it, however I don’t know where to start looking. I figure the AEM V2 CAI will come from XLR8 Performance, and I will probably do a Magnaflow custom job (parts from ebay) with the mid muffler delete with the Magnaflow resonator prt#10416, and the 2 stock mufflers switched to the Magnaflow mufflers prt#14362 (a setup I found on this forum!). On suspension I have seen several threds on "know what you want" referring to looks or performance, well I am performance guy all the way so I have decided on the A-Spec suspension. My question is what is a good price on this suspension? Also I would like to install the A-Spec lip kit all around, I have no idea where to look and what a good price is so if anyone knows of a vendor in these to areas it would be greatly appreciated.
Finally I live in the Central KY area and if anyone in Azine is close hit me up.

Welcome!

Good choice on the A SPEC suspension and A SPEC body kit.

Bad choice on the CAI. Reason being is that our stock filter is already pretty good. With a CAI-- you're only expecting a 2-3 WHP gain and a noise maker (which for some, is all they want). My choice is for a J-pipe. You can get the RV6 V3 J-pipe (which is still the best until proven otherwise), XLR8 V2, or wait for the 'ATLP-r'.

You can find our vendors through our "Sponsored Sales" (in which you'll find the BEST prices on A SPEC suspension/kit) or Used/New Parts by members in the "Car Parts for Sale" which is all located in our BM (aka Black Market).

This is the link: https://acurazine.com/forums/black-market-8/

You can also find locals by clicking on Region on top of the AZ page.

You chose the right car.

And post some pictures before you get flamed.

Welcome Bbt. Enjoy your new ride. The Aspec Kit is excellent for any Base TL. Most guys like one of our vendors (AckTL) for those kind of things.

I recently got my A-Spec suspension from an Acura dealer selling on Ebay. They go for a little over $600 shipped and then I paid a local shop $240 to install it. I love the performance (much less body roll), but don't like how jarring all the road bumps feel especially on the highway. You're in Florida so it'll probably be fine for you. I drive around the midwest where the roads suck.

Welcome! Your going to love your Tl! Like others have said I would skip on the intake and get a jpipe or pcds. It's alot more bang for your buck.

I'm gonna differ and say do the intake. It not only adds 5-9hp but it lets you experience vtec every time the cams change over. It's music to the ears and is very aggressive sound. Also why free up all the exhaust if you don't have more air coming in? Everything works together while also yielding the most gains.

Thanks for all of the advise guys, It really helps but I will prob. do both the CAI and the Jpipe. I like the growl of the V2 CAI and the higher flowing aspect of both parts.
As for the aspec body kit side of things does anyone no of a link that this has been discussed before because I dont want to beat a dead horse

There's a quote button on the left on the bottom of each post. Next to it is the multi-quote button if you'd like to reply back to more than one people.

Regarding your question, there are quite a few people who are rocking what you had just asked and it looks decent. To me, the side spoilers make it flair out a bit and adds to the aggressiveness.

I've actually considered the opposite. I wouldn't mind rocking just the side spoilers and leave off the front and rear lip. I like the flair that the side spoilers add, but the front and rear sort of look like extra plastic to me. I wish it was an integrated one-piece bumper solution.

Welcome, I never had a fast car but i owned some quick cars over the last 10 years.
*I owned a 95 Mitsubishi VR4 (DR650 turbos-439 AWHP / 460 AWTQ)- 11.8 @ 117mph in the 1/4 mile -sold it.
*Owned a 99 GSX (GT35R turbo)-12.7 @ 112mph in the 1/4 mile - sold it.
*Owned a 06 Civic SI w/ built head/stock bottom on IPS K2-2011 cams (235whp)- 13.8 @ 109 in the 1/4 mile , sold it.

If you're planning on making the TL fast, think of weight reduction, suspension work, stroke to 3.5L, turbo kit- you should handle 450-500whp... But then this is where the tranny starts to break/tear/worn from fast shifts/abuse, launching, etc. -- In the end, you'll only end up in the 12's, which isn't all fast. (I'm pretty sure the MDX turbo got you thinking of turbo'in the TL)

I'd invest the $15K you put in the TL and get something that will put you below the 12 sec barrier. Like a RWD or AWD. Just a thought. Acura TL is a great car, great engine, but to make it a race/drag car, it takes so much money to get there and at the end, still doesn't pay off with what you threw at it. Honda's weak point is the transmission, think they like the all motor feel than forced induction therfor there's VTec for the 3K's of boost.

But you can always open the car up on Jpipe/pcd/exhaust. These combos seem to make the car wake up and a bit fun to drive.

So what car brands you got into that made you stayed away from Acura Integra's and Acura RSX?

DMM was available in 05. Are you thinking of PMM?

DMM is the beige color: Desert Mist Metallic
AM is the dark gray color: Anthracite Metalic
PMM is also a dark gray color similar to AM: Polished Metal Metalic (not offered on the 05 TL)
