New to Acura and new to the forum! (Some questions inside)

Hey guys, I just traded in a 2007 F150 for a grey 2005 TL 6MT. It's at 101k miles right now, and I've read about the 7year/105k mile maintenance. The previous and only owner of the car took good care of it, and I wanted to know if there's a way to know if they have changed the timing belt and water pump. Also, if they haven't, is it an easy DIY? I'm pretty knowledgeable about cars, but I haven't done much more than just oil changes. I have a friend that could help me though if it isn't a tough job. Any input will be appreciated!

Welcome! I'm sure one of the members will provide you some answers...but, in the meantime, you can also help yourself by doing a search.

I'm assuming the previous owner was not able to provide any records so i guess just look at it? See if it looks worn out?
At 101k miles, if you're still not sure, just change them to be safe.

Acura inspections are free. That's an easy way to know for sure what exactly your car needs. If the timing belt needs changing, it will come up on the inspection.

There's really no way to tell if the timing belt has been done, unless you have a service record for it. If you know of the dealer or shop it was regularly serviced at you could ask them as well. Its kind of an involved job, but its not too bad. If the extent of your experience is oil changes you'll certainly have to have it done at a dealer or other shop. As Yumcha said, search the forum to find plenty of info, there's tons of it here. lastly, welcome and congrats.

If the previous owner had his car serviced at Acura then have them check the VIN, they should be able to tell you. As for a DIY, there are members that have done the service themselves, I'm not sure how hard it is.

Ok thanks for the replies. I bought it at an Audi dealer and they did a thorough check on the vehicle and under the belts/hoses section, it said there was no issue. They are really picky about the preowned cars they choose to sell, but again... It was an Audi dealership.

The DIY is in the 3G Service Department. Take a look at it to see what all is involved.

I was in a similar situation as you. Didn't know for sure if the 105k maintenance had been done. I pulled a CarFax and the information was there I guess since the previous owner had it done at the dealership.
