neuronbob's 2.5 year update

I'm running a little late with my 2.5 year update because work has been very hectic the last few weeks. I picked up my early-build 2004 TL several days before the official release, on 10/3/03. As regulars may attest, I update the site regularly on my car's progress in order to give noobs and regulars alike some idea of what to expect as the car ages.

Previous reports:

One month
Three months
Six months
Nine months
One year
Fifteen months
Eighteen months
Two years, w/pics

As of today, I have just over 46,000 miles on the car. The car has had no unexpected dealer visits. I was at the dealer in October for a B service and in March for an A service.

I have an intermittent dash rattle. It's not frequent, so I haven't mentioned it to the dealer. Since my A-Spec kit was installed in March, I've had a new rattle on the driver's side of the car, and it sounds like it's coming from the B-pillar. This one I may take the car back to the dealer to check.

Other than that, absolutely no issues. As you can tell by my posting this report, I didn't succomb to the temptation to trade up to an RL or M35x, as I was thinking in October (see 2-year report).

With the Comptech RSB, new 18"s, and new rubber, the car is more fun to drive than ever before. This is the first car I've kept after 40k miles in several years, and I intend to keep it as long as I can.

I will be writing a separate review of my new suspension setup later this weekend, time willing.

Always a good read, Bob. I can honestly say I look forward to your updates! 20K here on my 2004 6MT with no major problems to report. Just the typical: intermittent rattles (very minor), intermittent starting problem (once every few months) and the sagging headliner which was repaired.

Yeah, it's too bad my update is so short. The only things that have happened to my care have to do with install of better parts. Considering the flameout of other early-build TLs on this forum due to vibration and other issues, I consider myself VERY lucky. 3G TL # 168x must have been built on Wednesday.

Let's just hope your "time-bomb" transmission holds...

I just hit 40k yesterday (slowing down on the mileage since I dont commute as far anymore) I'm glad there are always a few out there that are a step ahead, either for peace of mind in knowing everything will probably run smooth or to give a heads up.

I don't consider my tranny a problem at all. The transmission issue is nowhere near as prevalent in these cars as in the 2G TL. I was one of the first to get the 2nd gear oil jet fix when the recall was announced in early-build TLs and it's clearly held up nicely.

With that said....that's what an extended warranty is for....JUST IN CASE. Hopefully I won't have to use it. Believe me, I'll let you all know if that happens.

Thanks for the update!

I just hit 40k and my 2year anniversary is 2 months away. I've only had the rear deck rattle and fix. I'm getting a wierd rattle noise in the B-pillar pax side but only above 70mph and on windy days. Hmmm, something exterior maybe? Also about to go to my 3rd set of tires. Wanting to do the Comptech SB and exhaust someday.

Do the rear sway bar. End of story. It's one of the cheaper mods you can make and it has made a major difference in handling. I'm still writing my brief review on it, should be done in a few days, but man! Acura should make a thicker RSB part of A-Spec. A-Spec is not complete without it.
