I'm looking to buy my first TL. Its an stock 08' base with no navigation and they want $25K. However, I want to add the A-spec kit on it before I buy it. I would like to know if anyone has ever negotiated w/ the dealer to include this kit in along with the price?

I'd probably work on getting the dealer to lower the price, then source the A-Spec kit after the purchase. I would think on a 2 year old car, the dealer won't have much of interest in sourcing parts for a car no longer produced- they want to sell the car, not spend a lot of time and effort making it how you want it. $25K sounds a little high, esp. since it's 2 years old and w/o Navi. How many miles?

Price will be negotiated and the car has almost 30K miles. It may be odd, but all the extra features the type-s has...I wont be putting to use. I think a clean and simple TL will do.

Are you sure you dont want one with Navi? Most people who get non-navi TL's regret it...

Yep, get Nav. You might think you won't use it, but once you have it you will wonder how you lived without it.

Get Nav.

I think the dealer would LOVE to sell you an A-Spec kit (and install of course) and add it on to the price of the car. I'll be shocked if they are not thrilled to do it.

My friend bought a brand new 08 TL Base for $28K.

$25K is pretty high for a base TL.

Oh and to add, I agree - get NAV. I love mine...didn't think I'd use it as much as I do.

Nav completes the car... I wouldn't even consider one without it!

I'm going to go back today so I'll see if I can get them to install free navigation system. I'm also gonna push for the A-spec kit and new tires. Hopefully get them to go down to 21K or somewhere around there.

I dont use my nav, but if the car came without it, it would make the interior feel incomplete.

They did laugh LOL. Well guess its back to car searching. I was hoping to drive a TL today, now I'm bummed. Only pushed for new tires at 23K but Dealer was stuck on 25K.

2008 base, 25K miles, no navigation, less than 50% tread on tires. $23K is reasonable right?

keep looking.
car buying takes time.
if you rush into it, you'll regret by either not getting the best price or the car being mechanically wrong.

I rushed into it and bought a Mazda 6 once...

Sold it 5 months later after being in the shop 5 times for warranty work.

It was actually my first real time dealing with a dealership. Quite the experience. Salesman was real mellow and nice at first and let me test drive but when it came time to negotiate the price he quickly turned into a prick and a douchebag.

Him - Its a premium package, CPO, and has 280 horsepower.
Me - Its a base model with no navigation and bad tires, it doesnt have 280 horse. Thats the TL-S. I dont care that its CPO. The price you keep telling me is for a brand new one. This one is used and its a 2008.
Him - This is 2010 bud.
Me - I'm talking about the car.
Him - Well, the car is worth 28K, you're already getting a discount at 25K.
Me - That car is not worth 28K, maybe brand new yeah but even so no one is gonna buy that car for 25K, the most I'll give you is 23K
Him - Well I cant sell you the car then. I've been in the business a long time and these cars go for well over 25K.
Me - Well, you got my number, give me a call if you want to sell the car.
Him - I wont be calling you.

As I was going to my car the Sales manager came out to reason with me a different offer but I declined. Going back home I was a bit aggravated the way the salesman treated me like he was completely right and I was completely wrong. I almost wanted to go back and beat his arse but maybe it was just because I didnt get the car I wanted.

your first mistake is showing emotion in the car that you really really really wanted.
he sensed it, and was not going to drop. Sales can make you become cocky.

Sales is a game. you have to play it their way. but there are ways for you to win. you should have at least heard what the sales manager offered. Might have been that 23k you were hoping for. most likely not.

If youre car shopping and the sales man treats you like shit, ask for another salesman.
Like i said, car buying takes time.

I hate dealing with dealerships. There are too many pricks like that. I dealt with them when looking for my car. I ended up going with a private seller.

Dealerships can be a pain to deal with. Its better that you didn't purchase that TL w/o navi because you would have regretted getting it. Definitely look for one with Navi and be patient. You will find what you are looking for.

I must be the only one on the forum that could easily live without nav. Used it once, and I knew where I was going anyway. I will agree with justnspace, however. The interior just doesn't look finished without it.

Back on topic, I agree with everyone above. Dealers are such a PITA to deal with, the negotiation, the back and forth with the sales manager, etc. I won't even tell you the horror story that is my purchase of the TL-S, but in general I prefer to do as little business as possible with them in person. Come in, look at and drive the car, then make any excuse to leave and give them your phone number. As a general rule they are in a hurry to sell, so do not be in any kind of hurry to buy. In the case of a non-nav base TL, they will be very plentiful for some time so don't waste your time with that dealer ever again. Don't let your friends look there either.

buying a car and making a good deal on i takes some time. i would suggest if you do not want to go the private party way take a look at dealer inventories and keep watching them for a few months. see if they have a few cars that continue to sit on the lot then go and check those out because dealers will be desperate to sell those cars, so you can probably get a better deal on it. ofcourse make sure that the car is in acceptable condition to you as well

Car dealers are always nice to show you a car and let you test drive it. After that, its always down hill and you gotta be able to walk away to get the best deals. I dealer listed a used 2002 S2000 for $12,000 sticker price on window but was a typo in an ad for $7,000. After test drive, I wanted the car and dealer said 12,000 for the car and thats rock botttom price with waiters coming in the next day for it. I told him 7,000 as advertise and sales person spoke to manager and wanted to meet half way. I got up and walked out and the manager stopped me and agreed to 7,000. Thats my most recent experience of the 3 cars I bought from a dealer. In all cases, I gave my best offer even if its 50% KBB and let the dealer accept or decline the offer and walk out. All sales person are there to make money, not be your friend. Treat them the same way.

The price is high and the salesman was a DB to you. I got my CPO 08 base (yeah no navi) with 17,000 miles for just over $20,000 otd. Like many of the others have stated it takes a bit of time and a ton of patience. I probably drove and/or called on 50 cars over 5 months before I finally found my TL. The right TL will be there just make sure you get the one you want and not be pushed around by the dealer/salesmen
