Need some suggestions...

For some time now I have been thinking of letting go of my TL-S, and for some reason I cant. I went on a window shopping spree and well Acura didn't want to cut me a deal on my car nor the SH-AWD I was looking at, went over to infiniti and lets just say I laughed at them. Kept searching and at one point found myself looking at a 2012 Camry SE V6... Then I was like wtf! lol Terrible down grade... even though its a nice car nontheless. FYI I didnt do this all in one day I wasnt desperate... lol

My 08 TL-S with less then 30k...

Well I ended up at Nissan... 2012 Maxima SV with all the bells. Nice car, personally think its over priced but if I decide I will pay well below sticker or MSRP.

However, there are certain things I dislike! That the TL has... 6cd changer, dom/map lights has cheap covers, paddle shifters are fkn huge!, HID low/high beams, and some other cheap shit here and there.

Things I do like... keyless, CVT tranny (for some weird reason), navi/audio system, 19' rims, seats, who knows what else I might find...

Help? lol

Forget the "minima" the TL is definitely much nicer abd more reliable overall.

when i was looking at cars i went and looked at the nissan maxima. the dealer had a white one with the black double sunroofs. The car was beautiful. It was between that and the TL. Honestly I loved the Maxima and I don't think it would really be a downgrade but I will say that the maxima felt like too much car for me. I was looking for a sport sedan which is why i went with the TL-S. The maxima is nice, but it really is a family sedan. Either way though, I think you'll be happy

I would keep the TL, since its still relatively new and with really low miles. IMO, the TL is a much nicer looking car than the Maxima.

I test drove the Maxima...the ergonomics just ain't there for what you're paying. I do a shitton of miles and the TL fits the ticket!

nothing beats paid off - keep the type-s in red is super rare and the maxima isnt really in the "sport sedan" category as the TL, but if sport is want you want i say go Infinity G35S, as close as youll get to matching the TL, still i would keep it.. MO..

Man, keep the TL-S thats a sick color and car!
Although they are aging the styling is still timeless, I would say in a non-bias way its one of the best looking sedans ever produced.

^ +1, and you have the Tl-s aspec kit which makes it even better. Keep the TL. To me the maxima's styling will get older a lot quicker than your Tl-s.

^no, he probably took an extended test drive.

Heh, the Maxima was always touted as the 4 door sports car.
in fact, I believe the TL should have that title. As its faster, and handles better.

i always thought the 3.5L nissans were beast.... altima sedan / coupes are about 3300 lbs with 270HP. the maxima is about 3500/3600 with 290 HP.

seems pretty nice compared to our base 3.2 weighting at 3500 w/ only 258hp. 3.5 type-s also 3500lbs w/ 286 hp.

i admit, the acura tl looks a hell of a lot better. base tl vs maxima 3.5 or altima 3.5, i would say nissan has it. sure it may have the crappy CVT, but have any of you actually ran against a 3.5 nissan?

now a type-s VS a maxima or altima 3.5 stock for stock would be nice to watch

Well guys guess what? I decided to keep BOTH!!! And yes I took it for the extended test drive, which was a PITA. I couldnt pass up the deal I was getting. As for the post with the 07 SE CVT tranny, those tranny are trash they have since corrected the issue(s) with them.

It does feel weird when ur on it, but on cruise mode its amazing! There is no delay on the paddle shifter unlike the TL's have (no matter what year). It does feel faster on take off but then again I really cant stomp on it as it still has less then 100 miles.

^it has more torque than the TL. thats why it feels faster off the line.

Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I traded in a VQ35 for my TL. I will say that the I35 was fast off the line, and would accelerate nicely, but the TL is just quick.

I like aspects of the new Maxima. Nissan makes a nice fairly reliable car. I really hate the CVT transmissions. I just do not like the feel of it. It may outlast the transmission I have in my TL but it is not for me.

The other thing you will find is that the Maxima will consume more gas than the TL. The VQ engine loves to rev high.

^ actually the DE rev just about the same as my TL-S, I havent tried to see if it passes into the redline yet or near it as its still fairly new.

As far as the TL being quick I will eventually put it to the test against mine but for now mfr claims 14.1 with the CVT tranny while the TL-S 5at is mid to high 14's... but who knows... either way both are fun in their own ways...

Dad drove a newer altima with a CVT as a rental in HI...those transmissions have pretty poor engine braking capability. Driving down a volcano, the thing doesnt slow down even in lower ratios/"gears"!

I would take the Maxima over accord/camry/mazda 6 but NOT the TL. Glad to see you kept the TL and got the maxima.

Seriously? The interior of the BASE and TYPE-S are very similar. Differences are patterns on the doors, seats, and red interior instead of blue. Everything else is the same. For you to say "But compared to ur base model....pffft" is irrelevant.

Just another arrogant Type-S owner
