Need some advice 2012 TL SHAWD to 2008 TL Type-S
I traded my 2008 TL Type S back in August for a 2012 SHAWD and I like the car and love the way it handles but for some reason I can't get the Type S out of my head. I just think that the Type S looks are so much nicer and more aggressive. I am thinking about selling or trading in the 2012 and go back to a 3rd Gen Type S but I just want everyone's honest opinion. Should keep what I have or go back to what my heart wants. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

What do you actually miss about the Type-S? What makes it better for you, just the exterior? With a slight drop and a lip kit, the 4.5G practically looks just as good imo. Of course painting the "beaks" is a must though haha. But I agree there is something about the 3G exterior lines...
Interior-wise they're both nice, though the 4.5G has too many buttons everywhere for my tastes. Not a deal breaker though, either way you're in luxury.
Performance-wise yes the 4.5G TL is "AWD" (albeit heavily FWD biased in normal daily driving) and it has around 19 more HP/17 more TQ I think, but it's also ~300lbs heavier.
Maybe the question is, what made you go to the 4.5G to begin with?

I drove a 4G 6MT once and it wasn't too bad, the handling was amazing though. The gearbox & steering feel was meh for me & not a fan of some of the interior materials. I actually don't mind the looks of the 4G though I still prefer the 3G.
I've heard that 4G 3.7's suffer from oil consumption which might be a bit concerning & auto's have torque converter issues. The 3G TL-S is a great vehicle in terms of longevity, looks & overall feel.
In the end te heart wants what the heart wants. If you can get a really well kept TL-S, go for it.

Most quality TL's out there worth buying will diminish as the years go on so consider you'll have fewer options. Have been asked several times by dealerships (upgrade) and random strangers if I was interested in selling; I'm certainly not and am sure many of the owners with well maintained TL's feel the same.

Dude, get back in the 3G TL-S. It's an upgrade, really imo, from your current car ![Tongue](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
I'm not a fan of FWD-biased AWD systems (like the Honda/Acura AWD) and the look is obviously no need to speak about that....go for another 07/08 TL-S!

i still dont get the 3G worshiping. I had a 07 3G for about 10 months and a 07 type-s for about 5 months. both i thought were very MEH. i mean they look nice but really need some mods to really pop. i think the 4G in the stock form looks worse than the 3G but they are really close when modded. mean while the 4G is more refined and better built.

Your gripe about the "need some mods to really pop" is known for 4G as well. The TL is not a GS430/460/G35/37/etc competitor. And the FWD and mediocre power is not what Acura TLs are known for.
The looks are MUCH better for the 3Gs and the 4Gs are not that much faster. If one were to want a better power platform might as well go for G37 and/or the GS from the Lexus or equivalent German sport sedans.

Being a big fan of the Type S myself, going from a 2012 SH-AWD you will deeply regret it IMO. The interior alone and all the extra features of the 2012 is going to REALLY date your Type S. Yes the Type S has great looks, but the 2012+ 4G has grown on me and really isn't a bad looking vehicle at all. Handles MUCH better, is faster, and has a more more features especially if its an Advance package.
Unless there is more behind the story such as finances then thats another story and would change things a lot. If you still love the Type S, but would feel much better financially to go back to an older 3G then by all means go for it. Otherwise, if its the car and nothing more, keep the 4G for sure!!
