Need Socal tint shop that uses Moleskin

Can someone recommend me a tint shop in socal 626 areacode that does moleskin in their install. Iv called a couple places around my house but none of them have even heard of moleskin nor do they carry llumar tint. All three places I'v called use Johnsons tint. Is this tint any good. I plan on using dye tint for my back windows because of the Navi. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks

There is non that I know of. People have tried already.

There is one about two hours north, but they charge $120 for it.

Just get mine and do it yourself in less than an hour.

I've called a lot of places in SoCal (mostly 909 area, but some 626 as well). I ended up driving to Upland to get mine done since I wanted a ceramic based tint, they gave me the moleskin for free, but the tint was cheap.. about 300 dollars for five windows. If you go with the cheaper tints, it'd probably cost you around 120-160 for it. My friend referred me to this place called "Rick's Tint Shop" in Walnut, CA, but I could never get a hold of them, kept getting the answering machine (probably out in the shop or something).

BTW, don't use dye tint.. it fades.. i decided to spend the extra money for ceramic this way I won't really have to worry about retinting in the future. Doesn't interfere w/ the GPS. I heard people say that they've had no problem w/ the metal based tints and GPS tho, just FYI.

Do you know the brand of the tint they used. I have not heard of a cermamic based tint before. $300 is pretty expensive so ill probably just find a place that uses the cermamic tint and just install the moleskin myself.

I also need a place to do my tinting. I'm in Orange County. What's the moleskin? Do I need it?

FormulaOne Window Film

Look for a dealer that sell FormulaOne in your area. The new Pinnacle Series is a true "ceramic" window film. The "ceramic" films offered by other brands still conduct an extreme amount of electricity and could still effect the AM radio.

I'm a F-1 dealer in Vegas, so I can't help you but a friend of mine in LA owns A-Pro glass tinting maybe he could help, but then again, I don't know how close that is to you.

If it works, ask for Tom.

By the way, FormulaOne is made by CP Films, the same maker of Llumar. It's just their high end, selective product line.

That's the one i used, the FormulaOne Pinnacle series tint. And just as MOROTYZ said, Llumar and FormulaOne are made by the same company. Plus my reasoning, might as well get it done right the first time around than having to go back and retint in a few years because the dye has become purple or have issues arise from metallic based tints.

MORTOYZ: Could you tell us how much u typically charge? That way others will know what to expect if they want Pinnacle tint on their cars. I'm not sure if I was ripped off or not, but hey, what's done is done.

Oh, regarding moleskin, it's a felt like thing they place over the rubber around the window where it retracts into the door, it's to prevent the tint from scratching. Once again, it's better to get it done than mess up your tint and have to get ur car retinted. Just a few extra dollars here will save you from having to deal with it in the future. IMO neway.

It made me cry when they took the door panels off my car to install the moleskin tho, but they put everything back together perfectly

Shinj1EVA,
Can you tell me which shop you got your car tinted at. I just reread your post and realized that Ricks Tint shop is the cheap place your talking about. There are a bunch of cheap tint shops by my house that will do the job for $115 but use Johnson's Film. I'm looking for somewhere close that will use llumar or FormulaOne and does moleskin. thanks

Typically, our price for doing a new TL in the Pinnacle Series is $375.00, this does not include any use moleskin.

We have also found on my car, that the majority, as much as 80% of the scratches are actually residue rather than actual scratches and they wipe off.

Here's a tip if you don't have moleskin: Clean your windows once a month with Pledge furniture polish. It puts a nice coat of wax on the film and prolongs any scratching.

I also had Formula One Pinnacle ceramic film installed on my TL. 35% on the sides and 15% on the back glass. It is non-conducting and does not interfer with the AM radio or the GPS on the Navi (which is under the rear window).

It was $228 in West Palm Beach. Lifetime guarantee. A beautiful job, too.

Go to www.formulaone.com to find a dealer near you.

IMPORTANT INFO when selecting a tint. Check your state's laws. The stock OEM tint from the factory on a TL is 75%. Whatever tint you get will be only 3/4 of the rating of the film when combined with the factory tint (approx). Pinnacle 35 is actually rated at 38% but when I installed it on my TL, my windows measured 32%.

If you want more details or supporting info, search here for "tint". There are several threads with good data.

I wouldn't recommend the place I went to. It's pretty far from your 626 area code (Upland, CA) probably a good 30+ mile drive from where you're at. Plus it's a bit pricey.. I paid over $300 for my tint, it does look good and they did a very professional job, plus they did it in under an hour which was very convenient. I just had my car tinted on a whim so I didn't care to shop around.

If you can go to Orange County, try A Terrific Tint in Mission Viejo. They did Llumar, moleskin, and it came out looking great. 949-365-9092 - ask for Tim.

What's the price you got the tint for? One of the service reps at Tustin Acura referred me to them, but it's a bit further south than I want to go. A place in Orange quoted me $300 for high grade Llumar with a lifetime warranty - including ticket insurance - but they don't use moleskin. Might just get the self install kit that one of the forum members is selling.

whats the name of the place that includes ticket insurance. I dont really care about the moleskin anymore because I will be installing that myself. I'm just looking for a place that uses formula-one and has ticket insurance.

The place is:
Classic Auto Tinting and Accessories
263 S. Tustin Ave.
Orange, CA
714-633-6331

They use Llumar, not FormulaOne. Don't know how much of a difference that makes to you.

FOR your information FORMULA ONE is the only FILM manufacturer that has CERAMIC tint. Lummar, solor guard, johnson, etc do not carry ceramic film. There is a PATENT on the PINNACLE series film so whoever says they have ceramic film are dishonest. DO YOUR RESEARCH GUYS
