Need opinons on CF hood

So as some of you know, I hit a deer early this morning and totally muffed up the front of my car. The hood is going to be replaced. I know a guy selling a CF hood off his old TL for a really decent price. I'm thinking about getting the CF hood instead of getting a new OEM hood. My question is how do you think it will look on a NBP. I'm also going to be getting the grill color matched. How do you think it would look with a CF hood and the color matched grill? Or should a go matte black?

I think a carbon fiber hood always looks good on a black car. If that hood is VIS then it will have the upper grille piece molded into the hood so you would have to paint that part to match your grille to whatever color you chose.

i always wanted to do a black with red pearl look to the carbon fiber hood on an nbp but i cant justify spending money on a hood i dont need. If i was in your situation this is exactly what i would do.

i have a VIS carbon fiber hood on my 2004 Satin Silver apec.. Painted the sides of the hoods to match the car and finished it out with clear to help protect from "yellowing"

As long as you completely paint the hood, it will look good.

^Yes. But I say that because I am not a fan of exposed CF.

OP do you have a picture of your car you can post? I ask because that would determine how to finish the CF hood.

Paint it= stock look, sleeper.
leave it bare= "hello everyone, i have a fast car!"

Depends if you want the attention, but I vote for leave it bare. Or paint the sides like Trplzero said and paint a silver, white, or red pinstripe between the CF and painted sides for some seperation. Then bury it in clear.

You can get an idea of my car by looking in the garage section for my car.

I think NBP can get away with a non-painted CF hood. But, a good clearcoat might be a good idea?

There was a thread someone made a while back about VIS having a clearance on 3G TL CF hoods, and the prices were VERY cheap. Just FYI.

You should definitely do it. Those Ron Jon wheels and blacked out headlights would look with the CF hood.

The guy selling it had the hood recleared when he got it. and had the heat shield put on the underside. I checked with VIS and the hood is going for around 900 w/o hood pins

kiss my ass

The other question is, If I do get the hood, what should I do about the grill. I've been wanting to get it Color matched for the longest time, but now that the CF hood is getting thrown in the mix, I'm not sure if I should go Color matched or matte black. The hood as a good gloss to it, so I'm thinking that color matching the grill will flow good with it

^

I think color matching the grill would be the only way to go. Having CF, NBP, and a flat black would have a lot going on at once. Plus the flat black may draw too much attention to it rather than the hood itself.

That looks wicked. I once considered getting one for my Silver Type S, but didn't think it would look good. I like the way it looks in this picture on a Silver TL. (Me, being the carbon fiber whore that I am......)

Deep down I think it's gonna look really good on the car. My only concern is that with the gloss of the paint, the CF hood is gonna look of place... Almost cheap if that makes any sense

Bobby, the carbon fiber hood will not make it look cheap. It's a different look, so it might take a little getting used to. But I'm sure you'll like it. It will take you to more carbon fiber, like the trunk or rear spoiler.

I know what they are

Steven I think the hood would look great on your car!

Jason, I was thinking that painting the hood would be the best bet. The exposed cf is sweet and all, but it may stick out like a sore thumb compared to the rest of the car considering everything on your car is black. To the true car enthusiast, they would be able to see the weave in the light, but to everybody else on the road they wouldn't think twice about it if it was painted. Just my of course.

Hush bitch

I'm gonna get it mocked up on the car tomm and take a pic. Then it's gonna be alot easier to tell. Granted it's gonna be without the bumper and headlight, but it's better than nothing
