Need new front bumper for TL-S...
Anybody have to replace an entire front bumper on the new 07+ TL-S yet? I'm curious how much it's going to cost, and whether it's worth going through insurance or not.
I hit a piece of re-tread tire from a semi going about 75MPH... it punched the bumper inwards completely, broke the foglight grill, and a few other pieces. I tried to punch it back out, but there is permanent creases in the bumper that won't go away. That, and the paint is all messed up.
Anybody have any estimate to how much it's going to cost me? My car is a lease, so aftermarket bumpers are NOT an option.

I think it is like $200 for the bumper cover... as for the fog light assembly and grill they've got that as well

I don't want the repair to affect my future rates, just to save $300 at the present time. That crap stays with your insurance history, my fault or not.
I might just suck it up... UGHHHHH!!! How frustrating...

Having been in the Insurance industry, I would say a claim would go against comprehensive not collision, you didn't hit another vehicle and it should be considered a road hazard issue. It should have no more affect on your rates than getting a windshield replaced. If your ins co says it would be considered a collision, fix it yourself as those will affect rates. Ask your agent though, if they are good they can tell you for sure before you decide. If it is chargable, I'd find a new company.
I called the first day and asked...
They said collisions qualifies as contact with another vehicle or "object" which would be the tire...
I think it's bullshit because there was NOTHING I could do, short of swerving, and probably losing control and totalling the damn thing.... lol

I think it will be upwards of 800 for oem parts... since he has a lease, he said he needs bumper, foglight assembly and the grill... plus paint and labor... accounting for acura being one of the highest in body repair I'd say it could even be $1000
A Quick Google search turned up these definitions.... this should clearly be a comp claim and should NEVER be chargable to you, period. I would raise hell. That is why you have insurance.
Collision Insurance
Collision insurance coverage pays for damage caused to your vehicle in an automobile accident, when you are "at fault". A standard collision automobile insurance policy will pay for any repairs up to the fair market value of your car.
Comprehensive Insurance
Comprehensive is very similar to collision insurance, the main difference being that comprehensive covers damage caused to your vehicle caused by any unknown party or "act of God".

"Comprehensive coverage will pay for damages to your car that weren't caused by an auto accident: Damages from theft, fire, vandalism, natural disasters, or hitting a deer all qualify. Comprehensive coverage also comes with a deductible and your insurer will only pay as much as the car was worth when it got wrecked."

finally this:
Comprehensive
This optional coverage pays for damage to your auto caused by perils other than a collision. This includes fire, theft, hail, vandalism, riots, damage caused by animals, and glass breakage. There are various deductible options that you can select for this coverage.
Keep in mind that not every non-collision related loss is covered under Comprehensive. For instance, your damages are not covered if they are caused by wear and tear, freezing, mechanical breakdown or road damage to tires by potholes. Also, certain property such as tapes and compact disks are not covered. Finally, make sure to notify your insurance company of any customization you do to your vehicle after it is purchased or it may not be covered.

I would look in the fine print of your policy, however I am almost certain that they are telling you that it would be chargable to discourage a claim. Bottom line is they don't want to pay. Keep in mind that this is common practice with insurance companies. Good luck!

I agree with TiminAZ. This should be Comprehensive not Collision. You did not "collide" with an "object" - that's for hitting light poles in the parking lot, etc, etc. (I am not an insurance expert, but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night).
If your Ins Agent sticks to this strategy, pay it yourself and find another agent/insurer. Based on your sig, you're still in that high $ 18 - 25 group; you don't need a collision claim on your insurance.
