Need new Brakes and Rotors-OEM or Others? Recommendations...

So the dealer told me my front brakes are low and need rotors cut, and the back pads are low and the rotors need to be replaced. Decided I'm going to do the work myself but need some recommendations on Rotors and Pads.

The OEM ones are about $460 shipped for 4 new rotors, and pads for the front and back. Not bad overall for OEM parts, but i'm trying to decide if I should get something else.

My current rotors are rusted and you can see it from the front side which sort of looks crappy. I'm guessing the brand new OEM rotors will do the same. I don't think I need cross drilled rotors since my car (2008 TL) is 100% bone stock and is probably staying like that, but i'm sure there are some rotors and pads out there that cost about the same and are way better.

Anyone have any rotors or brake pads they love and recommend?

anything will stop the TL.
you can go to autozone to pick up their rotors and pads if you would like.

or you could head to http://store.excelerateperformance.com/
and or http://www.heeltoeauto.com/

they both specialize in Honda/Acura and are our vendors for acurazine.

Ive bought my powerslot slotted rotors from excelerate.

I picked up these recently

http://www.cquence.net/cquence-perfo...iper-html.html

The price was right. I haven't popped them on yet.

I know there are others with cquence rotors that can recommend them.

Any rotors resist rust compared to the OEM's? If I remember right my rotors got rusted only a few months after having the car. I see a few come painted, other come with a zinc coating.

The link I posted has zinc covered rotors, they prevent rusting.

For non Brembo I dont think your going to find better pads than the OEM pads for longevity, dusting, and stopping power. Not sure why you need rotors? how many miles on the car?

Have about 37K on the car, but I am definitely a more aggressive driver and I can feel that the pads need to be updated. The back pads actually look like they have a good amount of meat left, but the fronts are cooked.

The dealer told me I need rear rotors. I felt it and it felt fine, but that's what they said. Seems like cutting the rotors only makes them weaker so I figured I'd just buy new ones. I plan to keep the car for a good while so I don't mind just going new all around vs cutting them. At the price of the Brakemotive package, it seems like a no brainer to just do all new pads and rotors and not have to bother with resurfacing.

I have Brakemotive rotors and pads for my 6MT and they are decent. The OEM pads are much better yet dustier, but you can't beat the price of Brakemotive.

Cool
37K is very early for base pads. Brakemotiv would not be an upgrade from oem, its just a good price. What do you not like about the OEM pads?

As I use Rock Auto for most of the parts, regardless of the vehicle, just thought I'd throw this out:

Pads
WAGNER Part # QC536 $21.89
WAGNER Part # QC787 $24.99
With the Rock Auto 5% discount code (738F057104C0 expires 5/8/13) and the Wagner $30 rebate, so pads are $14.45 total

Rotors
RAYBESTOS Part # 980151 $38.79 x 2=$77.58
RAYBESTOS Part # 980220 $56.79 x 2=$113.58
With 5% discount $181.60 and rebate ($5/rotor) $161.60

Reason I picked this combo is that they are all at one warehouse, no additional shipping charge. Actually have that combo on one of our cars.

Total $176.05 + shipping @ $27.00=$205

My 2 cents. I'm in the same boat deciding what brakes to buy. Currently have stock.

Brake selection depends on your priorities. Will you track the car? Is it a daily commuter? What are your performance needs?

I want quiet, lower dust than Brembo, and reasonably long wear.

I'm still debating what to get but I'm leaning toward Centric high carbon preferred rotors (these are the blanks for high end StopTech rotors), and either Posi-Quiet extended wear, or StopTech pads.

Anyone have experience with this combination?

hi guys, I'm also looking for new pads and rotors. My car makes this really loud squeaking noise from the passenger front side, whenever I start/ steer the car from a standstill or stopping to a standstill. I'm not really sure if this is related to the brake, but brought it out to mechanic and he only looked at the brake and said that pads and rotors need to be replaced. My car has 103k on it and is an 05. Is that really the issue here?

weird, just brought the car to another mechanic, he lifted the car up and took it out for some test drives, he said everything was ok and there's no need to do anything. And I have to agree, the car does make less noise now, even though there is still some squeaking. This happened before when I brought the car in for an oil change at the dealership. They lifted the car up and after that it drove smoothly until a few days later that the noise came back. But, I guess, it is better if I get new rotors and pads just to be safe. Sorry, for stealing your thread OP

P/S: I don't know when the pads were changed, bought the car from a dealership. Here is the info that they gave me: Brake wear front: 5.0MM; Rear: 3.0MM

I think I'm pulling the trigger on the Brakemotive setup. I only drive about 8-9K per year, but I am an aggressive driver so I want a decent brake. Part of me just wants to spend the extra and Go OEM or something else, but so many people are happy with the Brakemotive combination so it seems like its worth a shot.

I was told that the Brakemotive's don't come with new hardware pad clips, do you just use the old stock ones that are already there?

^yes.

I have Brakemotive Pads + Rotors as well. They were better then OEM and look good at the cheapest price around.

Works well for me.

Can you use the old ones, or should I buy new oem ones? Is this the shim set in the parts diagram, or something else? Can someone who knows help steer me in the right direction so I can order them.

Brakemotive come with all the pad, pad shim. The quality isn't top of the line but if you look for the price that being paid for its fairly good compare to other setup but if you look for performance then I would recommend go with Stoptech slotted rotor package. I hate OEM set up because it too dusty for me, instead go OEM you could go with Centric blank rotor and Stoptech pads. Many mechanics from Acura dealer does agree that Centric quality is better than OEM rotor and pad.

^^^Brembo or not, I am talking about the built quality of the rotor regardless of Brembo or not. I kinda picky when come to casting since my job is inspection of casting that been machined and ready to deliver to customer and we are talking about aerospace industry standard.
