Need new brake pads... advice needed!!

So this is my 2nd pair of front brembo brake pads that Ive went through... with some research I have found the EBC redstuff brake pads....
Now I need some advice, should I go ahead buy oem brembo pad set for $150 again or get the EBC redtuff pads for about $140.
All I know is that ebc makes their pads so they dont dust as much as brembo, I just dont know how well the EBC pads will function with brembo rotors. Also planning to resurfacing the rotors, any advice or good feedback on whats best done when changing the pads cause these wear way too fast.

I dont have brembos but i do have red stuff, and also 3GD EBC rotors. And.... I LOVE IT! the braking is extremely smooth, i rarely hear any noise from them, and when i do its nothing what i used to have. So what i would do is get them resurfaced and slap some red stuff around it.

You should expect over 50,000 miles out of the stock OEM pads supplied with your Brembo front brakes. I know most don't manage that sort of life, but it's not hard... really. That being said, I went with Rotex Gold Kevlar pads since I hated the dusting of the stock pads. You will lose a slight bit of braking efficiency, but not much at all. They work very well and give good life.

BTW, one of my next door neighbors is probably right around 100,000 miles on his stock OEM pads with his '05 manual TL.

if you dont' want dust....or a lot less of it...don't go OEM. and depending how much braking you do (ie city driving or slamming on your brakes), the TL can be known to eat through OEM pads. i swapped mine at 30K miles (they were on their way out, could have gone longer, but i hated the dusting) with hawk HPS pads. a little more braking power with a hell of a lot less dust. still have plenty of pad left and i'm at 53K miles. if you drive a lot of highway...you'll get the pads to last a while (duh, less braking).

comes down to what you want, more braking power, less dust, longevity, price...do your homework and you make the decision. i haven't had any probs with my set up for the front....the rears on the other hand...

Almost all of the non-OEM replacement pads won't produce anywhere near the dust of the pads our cars came with. My original set and the 2nd set of OEM Brembo pads lasted about 25K miles each and I found myself washing the front wheels every few days.

On my last pad change, I used Monroe Dynamics pads. They're semi-metallic which won't wear down the rotors as fast as ceramics would. Shop around as these can be had for UNDER $50. Once bedded in, their stopping power is more than adequate. I now have almost 60K miles on the current set and they look like they still have almost all their pad material!

As far as resurfacing the rotors goes, I still believe the RIGHT way to do it is the way the stealerships do it ... by using the lathe that resurfaces them ON THE CAR. That way, the new surface is perfectly perpendicular the the wheel's hub & spindle which from my experience yields better results.

Good luck .............

Thanks for all your replies and info.
Here is my dilemma... I have bought aftermarket pads before they were from local Autozone and they told me that they are equivalent to the oem specs, I paid around $95 for set (dont remember what brand they were), they had no dust, but damn they made noise and I lost so much stopping power, week later I threw em out and went and bought the brembos, it was like day and night after I installed those. So at this point I dont know if aftermarket pads will have same effect on the stopping power....

+1, I also have the Rotex Gold Kevlar pads on my 05 6Mt and I'm pleased with the performance.

also, shims maybe necessary to minimize squeal.

those should come with new pads i believe.

Autozone Cmax gold FTW.

I have them on my non-brembo calipers and they've SIGNIFICANTLY reduced brake dust...which is my primary concern. Lots of other members who have them on brembo calipers can also vouch.

They felt the same on my base model as what were pm there before (OEM equivalents).

I hope someone whose brembo calipers can chime in for ya.

You won't find a pad that equals the OEM pad in stopping power. They are that good. Some are very close, but not equal...

I have the Racing Brake ET300s. I've been very happy with them. They do not have the stopping power of the OEM pads, but they are very close. I'm willing to sacrifice the extra performance in order to have almost zero brake dust.

They were about $100 from Heeltoe (with Azine discount) vice the $160 price (Ebay) for OEM pads.

I replaced the OEM pads at 63K miles. They still had another 10K-15K left.

I've been running the ET300s for 50K now and they are not even 1/3 worn yet. I'm not kidding. I can't believe it...These thing are going to last me well over 100K!!

i understand ur concern with losing stopping power ... i do feel that i have lost maybe 15 percent stopping power with my cmax gold pads ... however they dust a lot less and have a much longer longetivity

I've heard that they are close to OEM in performance. You can search for a few threads on them.

I bought the stoptech pads for the brembo and they stop great and produce 1/3 dust that the oem brembo pads create. The pads can be bought from Josh at excellerate for $75!!

Read some reviews on the Subie forums and they will tell you its a great pad.

btw im using them on oem rotors.
