NEED TO KNOW - Mazdaspeed 3 vs Acura TL

This quote from the BMW forum is priceless; I may have to sig it. In fact, I believe I'll do just that.
"Starting from the end of 3rd gear and up this car will turn into a highway monster or called "demon". It's so scary it won't be funny at all. It is the roll race where MS3 really shines. I am getting pulls that I have never felt in other cars."

back in the day when i closer to being stock, i lost to an auto TL-S 2nd gen. those things still hold their ground!!! but that's really besides the point...haha

I have a 08 kbp type s 5SAT bone stock, and I raced a 09 MS3 stock last week at the track. I got him on the 1000ft then he took me. The second race I got him on 1st 2nd the he past me and beat me by a half car.

Half a car at the drag strip can be made up with the 6mt.

Mazdaspeed3KING stated "the smiley face on the front end is the con but if u get the black one it hides it and the car will look like some supercar from different planet, it's an awesome feeling."
Didn't you post the same thing on this thread somewhere?..
haha..man I wanted a MS3 before considering the TL-S and I even test drove one. You sir, ruined the image of all MS3 owners.

Guys, that Mazdaspeed3King guy at bimmer forum isn't me. I don't know that guy. Whether you believe it or not isn't really my business..
Yes and no. MS3 isn't designed for 0-60 take off. It's the first three gears that's hurting the most on the MS3. Even with DSC off you still get power cut, both hp and torque substantially. Also the gears are so close together it requires 2 shifts to get past 60. It's the great disavantage for the MS3. You have to do roll race to see how the MS3 performs because you can better utilize the power it provides from the top of 3rd all the way to the 6th gear. If I remember correctly the TL/ TL-S 6MT gets full power with the traction control turned off, plus it has taller gears therefore it only requires one shift to get past 60. I am disappointed that you guys are not understanding this. I kind of understand you guys because you don't know much about how MS3's work. From roll MS3 will annihilate TL or TL-S 6MT say from 50~ 100 or 50~ 150+ or 60~ 125, 100~ 150+. MS3 will substantially be faster.

To be honest I think that is a great looking car. One day I parked next to what appeared to be an '07~'08 white Acura TL-S and when I came back out of the grocery store and looked at both cars from the distance and my MS3 stood out much more. I gave nod to my MS3. But the white TL-S didn't look too bad either. Before I got in my car I looked through the TL-S's passenger window only to find out it was an Auto... got me disappointed.

There's one of the members here named "JS + TL" who owned a 2nd gen TL (with some mods) but after he read some reviews and what people said about the MS3 he sold his TL and recently got himself a 2010 MS3. I saw him posting his new car and pics at the mazdaspeed3 forum and I tell you he couldn't be happier. He is one happy boy now and told us how much power he has gained from the new car. He said there was no comparison in power and handles like a true sportscar. I think he's running around at mazda forum right now. I don't know if he's still around in this forum or not.

Here is a video that shows a modded MS3 getting worked over by a stock HR350z from a roll. You don't even want to see the dig races

I think a TL-S 6MT would hold its own from a roll against the MS3 from 50MPH -110MPH. Once the TL-S shifts into 5th gear I WOULD expect the MS3 to pull on the TL-S due to much better gearing. The TL-S pulls hard 1-4th. 5th and 6th are for fuel economy and not racing. I guess until a roll race happends no one will know for sure.

Like I've said I test drove the TL-S 6MT last year and did not find the 4th gear strong at all. The 3rd was pretty descent but not 4th... In order to get some power out of the 4th you'll need to be at around 6000+ rpm. The gear is a bit tall and there's not enough pull. My MS3's 5th gear pulls harder than the 4th gear on the TL-S 6MT.
Until we actually see a race like that we won't know. We both can only speculate.

I love mysteries!
I think I found Mazdaspeed3King's (God's alter ego) Youtube page!
http://www.youtube.com/user/shkc70
Same arguments about the being better from a roll, power reduction in the first three gears, and beating cars that trap higher than 106+ blah blah blah
I think we are getting closer to solving the mystery and finding the long lost MT! Check this out

Notice their similar typing and references to calling others "boy", "kid" as if he were a much older/matured fellow.
Evidence that shkc70 could be IS350King
and their references to "King" "God"
Is it possible that IS350King got hit by the economy and down graded to a MazdaspeedKing (or God)?!?!!?
edit: More evidence!

Now the final link to why I think we have found MT....

My theory Mazdaspeed3King = shkc70 = IS350King = IS350mom = MANUAL TRANSMISSION.
Wow, boredom at work = detective studies...

Oh yea later on I'm gonna get me a nice set of super-light 18" Volk RE30 wheels, with a tiny bit increase in offset for the rear.. That'll look real good. I don't have a plan for performance mod or slamming the car down just yet.. I try to keep my car original by not doing extensive mods..

I know IS350king and Shck70 very well on youtube. We have gotten into it many times! They are one in the same! Same logic and same stupid responses with the lack of proper english! lol

The TLS does not feel very fast most of 4th, and feels good in the lower gears because it is geared a little bit more short in low gears and taller in higher gears compared to what you would normally see. That does not put it at a disadvantage unless you are starting from a roll low 4th. When making proper use of the powerband in 4th gear, it is actually it's best gear, ask any TLS 6MT owner. Some cars might feel very fast, torquey and rev quickly in fourth or any gear for that matter but that doesn't mean they are covering any real ground or mph. That's what gearing is, it's compromising. The MS3 feels stronger compared to the TLS while it's in proper torque band but when you bring both up to higher rpms where it's known that the TLS more power, the Mazda is no longer making anywhere near the same kind of power that high, sounds like a trade off to me.
At lower rpms it will feel faster as it has more usable torque there and less weight but can't make full traction of that power until 3rd. So suppose you started mid rpm in 3rd, you may get a quick jump but that ends quickly as you continue up the powerband and when you shift to 4th you are not hitting back down to peak torque as that mark is fairly low. Instead at that point it makes as much torque as the TLS, which happens to have an extremely flat torque band and it's more usable at all engine speeds, but given that the MS3 is lighter it still benefits greater at that point but the TL then makes better use of it's higher powerband even after you factor it's extra weight, while the MS3 drops off significantly.
So I don't see a clear winner here, unless it's a typical drag race then for obvious reasons it's the TLS but in rolling or high speed scenarios there is nothing significant enough in either car that the reaction time or driver skill doesn't still decide the outcome.
