Need help deciding on dealer wheel/tire protection program....
I was at my local dealer purchasing an extended warranty for my 07 TL-S last week. The salesman offered me (for an additional $581) a tire/wheel protection program. Here are some of the features:
-no deductible
- covers any damage to wheels/tires from puncture of any kind and/or blowout
-roadside assistance (which I think I have with the Acura warranty anyway, correct?)
-here's where it gets interesting--> Refinishing of painted wheels (i.e. Type S) due to curb rash/etc.
The program is good through the end of the extended bumper to bumper warranty (6yr/ 70K). I also asked the guy what happens when my OEM tires wear out, and he said I can get any tires I want. However, I'm assuming I'll have to buy them and get them installed through the dealer (as opposed to going to tirerack.com or something of the sort).
What do you guys think? Would you do it?

Nope. Passed it right by....
Some report that the policies actually will pay out on claims but I', skeptical.
Take the $581 and bank it. Bank all the other fees you don't pay by not taking any kind of extended plans on anything and be self-protected. As long as you don't piss away the money on something else then you will be fine. Basically don't "insure/protect" anything that you can relatively easily afford to replace or fix.
Example: I just had a bent alloy straightened for $80 (Northern CT). I asked the guy about curb rash fixes (out of curiosity) and he said they average about $130.
Yes, the TL is very unforgiving to any encounters with a curb so just get used to it by being careful. The best way is to just take a bit more care when in those situations and avoid the problems all together. So unless you know you are a complete stooge when it comes to parking you can do the math and see why you would not take such a package.

Hmm, i say go for it. So far, i bent 2 of my 19" rims, the warranty covered the cost of the rims, tires, and tow. I got to keep the rims, which were repairable, and the tires were fine. I also got a bubble in another tire, and it was covered. I havent asked them about curb rash yet though. But if your not getting aftermarket wheels, it probably isn't worth it, because most likely you will not bend OEM wheels.
