Need help buying a TL PLEASE!

There's a TL for 8,900 05 with 136,000 miles, or a 07 type S 156,000 miles for 11, 000. Whould you buy either one?

That's very cheap...even for the mileage. I would make sure nothing is wrong with it. They should be asking closer to $14k for it.

Edit: If the type-s is clean, that's an awesome deal. That is way below market value for that car right now. Is it a manual?

based simply on what you posted with no other information whatsoever, get the S.

honestly, it doesnt look like you have much of a choice

these cars are only getting older.
this means more problems and more miles.

if you can afford a lower mileage one; i'd be looking at that instead.

also, dont be scared of a high mileage 07.
I'd be scared of the 05 tho.

+1. Would not buy a high mileage 04-05 TL. Notorious for transmission problems from the common owner.

07-08 is fine with higher mileage. Beefed up trannies and historically less transmission problems.

Look up in here climate control self diagnostic. It will self check the system for problems. With the engine on, hold the OFF button and at the same time press recirculate 5 times. It will start self checking. At the end the cabin temp will flash a funny looking code to tell you the malfunction. There is a thread with the codes somewhere here. There is also another self check in the nav that you can do. Also, check hands free link to make sure it works as well as blue tooth. Of course, make sure the timing belt and water pump has been done. If automatic look at the shift LED indicator...if its in "D" and solid green while driving you are ok. If its blinking its showing a transmission fault (have it checked.). Those are the major things other than shocks, brake wear, etc. good luck!!! I just bought my son the TL...this forum has excellent information so read a lot. (I still haven't worked out how to get a search to work properly!!!!)

Not to take over OP.

[to answer your question] I would choose the type S.

I am actually thinking of selling my TL and go for a type-S. I still owe on my current TL but not much, almost paid off. This was my first purchase on a used car through loan 2 years ago, and I would probably get a small loan to cover the difference in getting a type S.

My cousin who drove it, is in love with my car. He is thinking of buying it and willing to take over payments. Is it wise to look for a type-S or just tell him sorry?

I have money saved, and what ever I sell my car for, will be put towards a type-S. Just a small difference I would finance.

Mando I say go for it. I went from an 05 to an 07 TL-S, I just had one car in between. I love the type s, and finally have a car I see myself staying with for the long haul.

Would opt for the S as well assuming it's in good shape. Don't be afraid of high mileage on the TL, especially with the 07-08. As long as it's been maintained it can easily go another 150K.

Keep us posted on the type-s. I'm really curious to see if there is anything wrong with it. The low price makes me think that there most likely is, and if not, the car dealership or seller does't know what they've got their hands on

I love the type s and rarely see any one the road. Its definitely a head turner for its age. I will wait a bit longer until maybe april to sell it too him, since I want to pay for registration and smog it before I sell it. Thats when tags are up.

My parents recommend wait until April also. I hope my cousin can wait as he just wants to dump his problematic 97 nissan Sentra.

I did the same thing. Bought a TL-S and am getting ready to sell my 04 base. Very happy I did it; but for me it was even more worth it because I got everything I always wanted.

I wanted a silver black or white type-s with black interior and 6MT two years ago. I ended buying a green base automatic with tan interior. I loved the car and still do; spent a lot on mods and everything but when I came across an NBP Type-s 6Mt at a price I couldn't walk away from, I would've been stupid not to go for it.

Good luck. OP I would go with the type-s if the maintenance is up to date and the body is in good shape.

Now it just comes down to whats a good price for type S and the color I want/find. There was a KBP[top of my list] in northern cali but its way up there and has 74k and a few mods that I dont want. but I found a few WDP type s which is my second choice.

I just bought an '06 base in July. I wish I would have known more. I would get an 07-08 next time and a Type-S if I could do it over.

No way thats a RRP. Its too bright, this car was repainted. And its not in excellent condition just from the photos alone, ripped seats, gas cover bent. High mileage doesnt justify the price for an 04.

An 07 Type S w/156K for $11K wouldn't sit on the open market around here or more than a week...unless there was something seriously wrong with it. Hope it's still there for ya, bro...

strangely enough, my 2007 Type-S is cheaper to insure than my 2005 TL was. Like 6 dollars a month cheaper, lol. Made no sense to me.

Well went to the dealership, and they sold it last night. So I'm back to looking for another one again. I sold my 05 mustang gt to be in the TL Family. So I'm determine to get one.

I know it doesn't matter now for the OP on the indicated cars, but there is another reason to go with the 2007+ TLs - you can buy a chip for them from Hondata which you can't for the 2004-6 TLs.

Keep looking and a TL will become available.

Sorry to hear that, jason...ya gotta be ready to jump on a deal when you see it pop up. I found my 05 by watching every day for weeks and I showed up at the dealership the next morning after it was listed with cash and a trade-in, and actually drove away with exactly the best deal I dreamed I could get. While I was making the deal on Friday around noon, 3 guys from nearby states called to look at it on Saturday and one was ready to make a $1000 credit card deposit on the full asking price. And it is only a BASE, not a Type S. So, good luck in your hunt!!

Sorry you missed it, but it's better not to hurry when buying a car. I suggest that you take any used car you find to have a good mechanic inspect it. This can save you lots of trouble. I'd also look on Craigslist for individual sales--from my experience, you get a better for the money as long as you buy carefully--the dealer markup is just nuts. Good luck!

Yeah like everyone stated. These 3G TLs are HOT on the Market right now. They're getting sold left and right, first come first serve. I just bought mine a month ago. I would stay away from most dealerships if possible. Private owners are always more understanding and lenient when it comes to price, especially if it has minor issues anywhere. But yeah it was a horrible experience for me with all the dealerships.

By any chance how much did you pay for yours? what part of Cali do you live in.

I know there are a lot of TLs in Socal for cheap through dealerships, the private owners are actually higher in some counties.

I am beginning my search for a Type-S, I let an 08 WDP type-s with 73k miles slip from my fingers at a Kia dealership in garden grove. Price: $16k 1-owner clean title.

Mando, a clean, one owner TL S-type with 73K at $16K is a rare deal indeed--especially at a dealership.

I had already spoken to their internet department but they had 5 other interested parties and one had already put down a deposit.

From what carfax showed, it was maintained at the Acura dealer showing every 3k miles a service was down/oil change car wash.

And it it was the combo I wanted WDP w/Taupe. They priced it to sell, now I see others pop up but around $18-20k with around 78-90k miles with two owners.

I will keep looking, but finding so many 08 base models with nearly 60xxx to 70xxx miles for less is tempting me. But I really want a Type-S model as I plan to keep it for the next 3 years until I can afford the new gen MDX(my dream cuv)
