Need an explanation....

I recently had my 07 TL-S serviced at an acura dealership. the car was showing misfire codes P0301, P0305, and P0300. took the dealership more than 2 weeks to complete the repair but they let me keep a loaner tsx the whole time. when i went to pick up the car i did not have time to sit an talk to the service rep about what was done to my car.he kinda told me that the total bill was for aprox $7200!!! everything was covered under warranty (thank god) but thats still a lot of work done to the car. so I'm posting the receipt they gave me. can somebody explain to me what exactly was replaced/repaired by looking at the receipt? I'm sure you guys are pro at this! Thanks in advance!

It looks like all they did was replace a cylinder head, timing belt, plugs and other small general stuff. Nothing that should have cost 7200.00!!! But I am sure a ton of that was diag work to figure out the issue. All in all you go free work done!

Free work FTW!!!

Though it doesn't surprise me about the sparkplug issue. I've read on here (TL section) a few times about plugs backing out, especially if the owner waits to change them @ the 105K service. Some of the plugs are actually loose.

They replaced the entire engine, minus the rear cylinder head. Part #10002-RDB-A00 is a short block. Just that and the front head are $5k MSRP.

Wow, that extended warranty turned out to be gold!!! What extended warranty did you purchase?

Kind of surprised the block got damaged. Been a lot of this going on and this is the first time I recall the block being damaged...

that is involve alot of work, you got head done alone with new ATF, TB they basically give you a new top end for the engine and yes head work aren't cheap for dealer work, I was quoted $4500 per head gasket replacement for my brother 93 Legend back in 03. BTW what warranty that you got covered by CPO or extended warranty?

They gave him a whole new loaded block and HALF of a new top end.

Hey, OP, now you don't have to worry about your 105k service!

thanks.. but what does ATF stand for? i had the CPO warranty and i bought an extended warranty for 1500$ when i got the car. i looked up the parts numbers and oh my they were right. engine block and header alone costs 5k for parts..
btw..should i be worried about anything? is a rebuilt engine as good as the stock one?

I appreciate everybodys input.. but i still would like to know a couple of things.. does the receipt say that the spark plugs were changed? I was always getting oil changes at the regular body shops .. always put 89 or 91 octane fuel.. is that one of the reasons why the car broke down? I lost faith in this car for some reason..lol

Skimming over the receipt it looks like they changed 1 sparkplug and a coil.

BTW getting your oil changed at an indy shop and using slightly lower octane (89) isn't what caused your car this much damage. It was a loose sparkplug that did it. And your motor is good to go, and if you have any problems, it's on the dealer.

The sparkplug issue is a somewhat known issue where the plugs back out of the threads. I've read it a few times. It has happened to different models, not just the TL (models with the j-series).

Hopefully someone else can shine light onto this situation.

yes rebuilt engine is good as the original one and this look like they gave you almost brand new motor, ATF stand for Automatic Transmission Fluid which they already replaced. like every one else said its the loose spark plug that cause the issue not because you put 89 in the car. 105k service already taken care for you, basically your engine is now having 0 miles on it. You don't have to worry the 105k for another well 105k miles.

So are you saying they should be changed before?

^ i did my plugs at 90K. On my 02 CLS none were loose. Just curious as how they can back out since the coil holds them in place?

^^^some one screw up at engine manufacture process by not torque it down properly or it can be even the part itself is failing and not suppose to leave the factory to begin with.
