Need all your help getting some interior Decibel levels!

I'm working on a sound deadening project and would like to get some help from you all. All of you with an iPhone download the free app called SPL Meter this will measure the decibel levels. The next time your on the highway cruising at 70mph turn the radio off and use the app to see what decibel levels your getting. Also post what tires you are running. I'm really interest in seeing what everyone gets!

Too bad I don't have iphone. But just the other day going 60+mph I thought my car died on me when I put the car on neutral coming to a stop light ahead. Had to rev her to see if she was on cause it was so quiet.

It doesn't matter just post your mods if you have them. This will be interesting to see how the mods effect the sound levels in the car

I'll have to grab my meter from work and get a reading for you. PCD's, XLR8 non-res, should be loud! I'll be doing some sound deadening in the future, so it wouldn't hurt to grab the baseline.

that app wasn't free anymore so I grabbed the free "Simple SPL Meter". My mods are below. This was taken at 70 MPH, on Goodyear Eagle GTs, on a concrete interstate surface. I'll try again tonight on an asphalt surface.

Below is a snapshot:

Took one measurement at 70 and one at 80.

I am riding on AT A-spec suspension with 18 x 8 A-spec rims wrapped in Bridgestone Protenza RE760 sport (235/40/18). Tires have approx 6-7K on them.

Only mods to change sound are AEM CAI and RV-6 V-3 J-pipe.

70 mph

80 mph

wow actually looks like those visors keep the interior noise down mine is reading mid 70s and that is after quite a but of sound deadening but now all I hear is wind noise.

Just for shits and giggles, I'll take a measurement with the windows open about an inch to see how much the visors help keep the noise down while driving.

Hey man Im really interested in figuring out if your wind deflectors are getting you such low decibel reading. I cant get lower then 78 and I have 1/2" of foam coating all my doors and most of the back of my car! Can anyone else try this that has wind deflectors?

I'm just around 80 with all four corners cracked an inch... I can't believe that the visors would make it that much quieter though. Someone else with them better post up!!!

Seriously if I can confirm I will be getting some for sure! 9-10 Decibels is quite a big noise reduction. Do you hear any wind noise on the highway while holding your ear near the window? Which iPhone do you have the mic could be different too.

Its an iPhone app I dont know anything about the android market. Just look for any decibel sound meter and see what you get. I have tried a few apps and they all read around the same.

I'll try to do this for you in the next few days. I just had snow tires put on my car for the winter.

Don't have an iPhone but I used my handheld meter and hit a peak of 108dBc on my daily commute, reading from on top of cup holder. Short ram, PCD's, XLR8 Non-res. Average was around 93.

Just a suggestion with the wind deflectors lowering the sound, the type-s has the active noise cancellation technology in it. Not sure if that's whats lowering it so much but it is a possibility.

Only if it is real windy can I hear the wind with my ear to the window... With normal conditions, there isn't much wind noise.

We will see what happens when I take the summer wheels off and go back to the all season stock set-up.
