Need advice on a potential 04 TL!

Finally found a reasonable deal! A 04 AT with 54k with a sticker price of 14,000. It's a single owner car with a clean carfax. I've heard some things about early 04's having some Tranny problems. What type of things should I be on the lookout for? is there a way I can look this up by the Vin number?

I've been looking for a TL for almost 5 months now and although this really isn't the color scheme I'd prefer (Green with Tan interior) the price is right annnnd I'm getting to the point where I'm in desperate need of a reliable car! (Actually that's not true but I'm just going nuts waiting to find a TL! 5 months is pushing my limits)

Anyways, maybe I'm just not very adept at navigating this site, but if anyone can tell me what to look for in buying a solid 04 TL I'd be very appreciative!

Thanks in advance Acura hive mind! If I get the car you can rest assured the tint, drop, and rims will be soon to follow!

Sooooo I just took a look on the Acura Service Bulletin that's posted on here (love the site by the way) and the car's vin falls within the cars that need the recall. This might explain why the car is so cheap? Can anyone tell me what to do in this situation? How does, or how should this affect my decision in buying this TL?

I had an 04 until a couple of weeks ago. Bought the car new and can't recall a single problem during the entire 54K miles. Just wanted to upgrade to a newer car with navi.

Personally, I wouldn't buy it for the sole reason that it isn't the color combo that you prefer. Second, if you are concerned about the tranny & want an automatic, I would look at 06+ models.

I've had problems finding a low miles 04-06 TL for under 15k. . . Have been looking for quite some time now. I suppose my main questions is how concerned should I be about this recall?

I'm just worried I'll buy a car and find out it has tranny issues. . . Anyone have experience dealing with early 04 TL's??? I've been told to watch out for them. . . sooo I'm thinking of passing on this car. But I'd really like to buy it!

Dont do it if you dont like the color scheme. You will be stuck with that color. Choose a color that you like.

Im also looking at 04-06 TL's with low mileage for under 15k and the thing that concerns me is how well it was taken care of.

Like others have said, don't purchase it if that's not EXACTLY what you want.

If you really like the 04, check the condition of the dash board. I had to have mine replaced since it was cracking uncontrollably.

If I had to do the purchase over again, I would get a 05+ 6-speed with navi. Live and learn right?

Just wondering, how much did it cost to replace it?

The total cost of a new dashboard and labor was $1800+

I negotiated with Acura and I paid $550.
