Need Advice...anybody and everybody

So I just recently got engaged...about 2 months ago and now I face the ultimate question....What to do with the TL?

I'm thinking two things right now:

1.) Keep it and start modding it and just keep having fun, or
2.) Tade it and the my old car for the new 07 MDX in prep for the family thing.

What do you guys think? I wish I could do both, but we all know that would be pretty expensive. Give me some feedback.

Congrats on the engagement!

I'd keep the TL and only buy the new car when you actually need it. If you buy the MDX now, it'll be 'old' by the time the first kid comes along.

How soon do you plan on starting a family? I'd wait until one is on the way before you start shopping for possible cars to accommodate everyone.

Does your wife really take up that much room?

I kid!!!

Whats with marriage and people suddenly thinking they'll need a minivan or suv? Believe it or not, but the TL is already a great family car...its probably one of the roomiest vehicles in its performance/class

I disagree with the "wait until you're ready for a family to shop for a car" idea based on one simple principle: Do you *REALLY* want to buy a BRAND NEW car for your one month old to spit up in?

Keep what you have. By the time you have children, you won't be so concerned about the interior of the car you currently have and it will be the perfect family car. Not to mention that it will still be a TL...

Don't buy anything until you need it. You don't have kids yet and unless the first time you get twins, the TL is fine. Even if twins TL's ok.

I got a TL because it's just me, wife and 6 yr old son. She has a 99 CR-V.

I would wait. Don't get it untill you actually need it. I thougth about this as well before buying my TLS and I realized it's better to wait and address the need when it arises. Just my

I don't know how I ever survived or how my kids survived .. we didn't have SUVs back then .. Ours started out in a 56 chev 4door .. 58 Impala 2rd hdtp and a 64 Impala .. then a 69 R/T charger ... and they all grew up... 2 arms .. 2 legs .. baffles me.

Keep the TL

Keep the TL, buy your future wife what ever she needs/wants, that way you're both happy. I had a similar situation not too long ago, wife was pregnant so she was the TL's primary driver, baby came along, she needed more room for the stroller, etc. We bought a Honda Pilot for her and I kept the TL. She loves her Pilot, I drive the TL, I've install the A-spec body kit and the deck lid spoiler since. Now I'm in the market for an S2000 while keeping the TL and the Pilot. Things have a funny way of working out.

I have a TL and a Mega SUV (Sequoia) which I cart my 2.10 year old son in. The TL is roomy enough to accomodate a car seat and stroller in the trunk. The SUV is fine too but is kinda overkill.

Congrats on the engagement.

Along with the others, I would stick with the TL. If you are financially stable to mod the TL, go for it! Mods sure can get pricey. Owning a house would also be one of my concerns. :2ents:

Good luck!

Congrats! Now what you have a nice car I would look into other priorities if they haven't already been addressed.....like owning a house.

I have a 3.5 yo and a wife. Go out this weekend and buy your wife the SUV and you are free to mod up your TL. It's what I did and I couldn't be happier! Just make sure her vehicle has as many bells and whistles as yours...

KEEP the car. Just multitask and put money on the side (modding) along with saving up for whatever incase you need it... you'll ONLY by the SUV when you really NEED to buy. Don't kill your fun too early. lol

Oh, I forgot to mention, my son prefers riding in the TL over the SUV even though the SUV has the entertainment/video package in it.
Oh, we are also thinking of getting rid of the SUV as well since it is actually overkill for our needs other than when I need to transport the christmas tree or buy furniture for the house.

That's probably some of the best advice on here. I think I'm gonna stick with the TL....it's better than an SUV that gets about half the mpg that I get in the TL.

And for those of you who say buy your wife an SUV....all I have to say is damn!! You must make a lot more money than I do......She can buy her own SUV, well at least when she's done with grad school.

Unless you're getting married because you knocked her up, I'd put the minivan disguised as an SUV on hold. Besides, you don't need that much space - my parents did fine with and old-school Honda Civic (1976) with me and my brother and a Renault Encore (remember Renault?) after that.

The TL is really a pretty large car. Dont really see why you'd need a larger vehicle unless you have more than 2 kids.

I agree with the people who say keep it. I'd also say that if you do look at an SUV, go for the RDX over the MDX.

i actually have a different take...

i'd trade in for a SUV (MDX or from another brand) sooner than later if i know for sure that i will be getting one in the future. the reason is that the longer wait the less value for the TL trade-in.

please don't get me wrong, TL is also a great car for the family but I do believe SUV gives more space even though the fuel efficieny is bad.

Keep it and don't mod it.

Use the money you saved from the mod's to reduce the cost of the SUV later on.

Either the TL depreciates or the SUV does, whats the difference? I'll bet your total cost of ownership is much higher for the SUV. Besides, he may realize that the TL is sufficient and that he doesnt *need* an SUV after all.

Not mod the TL?!? That's the first I think I've heard anyone say that. I'm not planning on any major mods, only a few little things, like the comptech RSB, AEM CAI, E-Shift Pro Cats. I'm not the kind of person that likes to change the exterior look of the car (over stock options of course)....instead I like making my cars sleepers. My old car is a prime example of that. Looked bone stock on the outside and interior, but the stereo and motor told different stories
