Nearing a purchase (yay!) - quick Nav ?
In about 12 hours I may be coming home with a new TL. One Nav question I was just curious about. What features/functions of the Nav system are disabled while the car is in motion?
Is it just the ability to enter a new destination? Can you still scroll the map around as you drive? Also can you enter destinations via voice command? (I've thus far only been able to test drive a non-Nav car, and the salesman was a moron and couldn't answer my Nav questions)...

None of the Navi controls are disabled while you are in motion. The only thing you cannot do while in motion is to pair a phone.
You can scroll down the map, input addresses etc while in motion. In terms of voice commands, you cannot input an address by voice command. However, if you have an address in today's destinations, your destinations or previous destinations (or it is a POI) you can access it from voice command.
I have input addresses while stopped at a light or had my wife input them while the car is motion but I would not input an address while in motion.

Although I agree that the driver should not operate the map while driving, I think it's a little patronizing of some of the car manufacturers to disable Navi functions while in motion. Why not disable the radio and phone controls, too? A driver shouldn't be making calls or fiddling with the radio stations while driving. Why not disable the loading of CDs while in motion? Ever try to load a CD while you're driving? Not safe. Hell, why not lock down the glove compartment while in motion? It can't possibly be safe to try to fish something out of your glove while driving.
But a front-seat passenger can do all those things safely. I LOVE the fact that Acura didn't lock down the Navi. Hopefully that won't change in the future, but I guess all these car companies have lawyers who are paid to make sure we have no fun in the car.
Not to worry...I wasn't trying to imply I'll be dangerously futzing with the Nav system while driving. It's just that I previusly had a Lexus (booorrrrrring...) and with that car you (or more precisely) the passenger couldn't input any directions while driving, which was really annoying...
05TL would disable that feature, no one could use Navi while in motion... (just kidding)
BTW, when you're driving, you cannot play around your seat-memory besides you cannot pair the phone... and more...

As stated in the posts above, you can mess w/ the navi while driving. As far as voicing an address - you have to type in the street name but you can speak the number address. Once you master the voice commands theres rarely any instances where you have to take your hands off of the wheel.
Now if there was only a way for the car to feed you while driving. :facelick:
