Navi Package in '06 - What Do I Get?

Looking at getting a 5AT and trying to decide whether to go for navi or not. Besides the actual navi system what else, if anything, do I get for the $$$. Sorry for asking but I can't seem to get a clear pic of this from the acura sight. Do those who have it actually use it? TIA

I am not sure about '06, but on the '05, in addition to the NAV and voice commands, you also got a set of decent tires (Michellins) instead of the dreaded Bridgestones.

I recently received a quote for an '06 5AT with Navi for $32800. Is this good? We are still comparing the TL to other models and shopping for quotes. Would we get a better deal later... late spring, early summer... late summer?

You'd get a better DEAL, and a better WARRANTY by buying a CERTIFIED pre-owned one with very low milage. Just another idea

What you'll get is piece of mind knowning you'll never be one of those 1000's of 3G TL owners who didn't get the Navi and looked back afterwards banging their heads into the wall wishing they had.

The TL is my first Navi car, and I don't know if I will ever buy another luxury type car without it.

Good points above . If I'm in for C$39,500 ++++ what's another C$2,750 or so right? Seriously - when I think about it that way it seems like a lot of $$$ BUT when I look at it in the frame of usefulness, resale etc it *does* make sense. Hmmmmm ... now I'm on board with it I just have to figure out how to get the WAF [wife approval factor] for it lol!

That is a good deal. I paid $34k for mine and I had to fight for it. $32,800 is invoice price. Check here:

Get Navigation!

For wife approval factor, just have her sit in the car, or better yet, drive it. My spousal unit has said nothing but good things about the car; not a peep about the $$!

FYI, the '05 TL Navi 5AT came with the Michelin MXMs instead of the notorious Bridgestones, and the Navi has great voice controls. The navigation system will probably increase the re-sale value, and I personally prefer the look of the Navi dash to the standard dash.

you actually get a lot of cool toys with the Nav:

1. POI - points of interest including phone numbers that you can send to your bluetooth phone.

2. Solar sensitive climate control - the car via GPS knows the position of the sun and automatically makes whichever side the sun is on cooler.

3. Voice Command - very useful when you want both hands on the steering wheel, just bark out those commands!

4. You can get vsokolov or the avelectronics unit to view movie DVDs using the Nav screen (do a search on this).

5. And the reassurance that you will never get lost. "Go Home"

hope this helps!

i know people who say "i've lived without it last xx years, why can't i live without it now?"

but seriously, people don't really buy navi because they don't know where they are going all the time.. it's more like a "must" for luxury car in my opinion. Navi does make TL look better though

I got the navi when i was rather unsure how much i would end up using it. I had heard it was good but figured it would just be a small bonus kind of thing.

Now, I know i'll *never* have a car without navi. It's going to be a huge factor in my next car purchase... by that time I hope to see many more satellite/touch screen/xm features! What we already have now is amazing!

Get the Navigation...definately! Seems as if everybody who did not get it wished they had afterwards. Plus....all the points already mentioned above...all good valid reasons. For the wife approval....have her compare features of one with the other...throwing in those additional features mentioned above.....let the salesman work for you a bit here too! She'll come around!

^agreed, before i had navi i didn't think it was that important but its one of the most useful options and i cannot get another car without it. there are other features that come along besides just the navigation functionality that people have listed. when driving somewhere unfamiliar it feels so much better not to worry about where you are going and just drive. The re-assurance that you will never be lost is very comforting to me. i know there will be arguments where people say they always drive to and from the same destinations. but half the fun of driving sometimes is to venture off somewhere else other than home-->work and vice versa. If you do a simple search you will find numerous owners regretting not getting the navi(in fact i think there were 3 conversions done which ended up costing more $$$). but i have not seen one post to this day since joined about someone regretting getting the navi. maybe it's just navi owners justification of the extra money spent but i can honestly say it is one of the best features of the 3rd gen TL.

where in canada are you located? I hear there is extremely poor coverage in Western/ rural parts of the country, and have not seen significant improvements in navi update dvds addressing this.

This sums it up EXACTLY RIGHT... I was one of the ones until I traded it in after 5Months for the NAV... Same exact car but with NAV and 6MT instead of 5AT... trust me, the NAV makes a ton of difference. The car just doesnt look right without it.

Thanks again for all the input folks! Navi is a go in my books - the wifie *might* have to do without her pallaties class to cover it though . I'm in the Toronto area as well and have looked inito Canadian coverage. As I do about 80% of my driving in current coverage areas I think that should be okay but thanks for pointing it out .

There is another benefit of the Navi that is not mentioned very often.

Even if you know where you are going and the route that you are going to take, the Navi provides you with an estimated time to destination. The original estimate will obviously be wrong if you hit a lot of traffic, but the time remaining is constantly updated.

I feel very stange now when driving my wife's car that does not have a Navi. You don't misss it unless you have used it.
