Navi database not so good??

Anyone else find that several points of interest are missing from the navi database on the TL? I live in Northern Jersey, and in all honesty, only 1-2 out of every 20 or so places I look up can be found in the system. I went out to a couple of furniture places (Levitz and Seaman's) that have definitely been here for a while -- neither is in the database. I've looked up restaurants and stores that I KNOW have been here for at least 5-10 years, and they are just not listed. Strangely, even places located on Route 10 or 46 (two major streets) are not to be found.

So, as much as I love the Navi (IMO worth far more than the $2000 it cost), I still find that I have to look up the destination address online at the Yahoo yellow pages and input it manually into the nav. That's fine for scheduled outings, but I find that often I'll want to go somewhere unfamiliar and, while I'm out, I'll decide to go somewhere else, so I end up having to scroll on the map and mark the destination w/ the joystick because it can't be found...

I have database version 1.04 dated 9/2003. The actual directions are flawless and 99% of the streets I've encountered are mapped, so in that respect, the navi is perfect. I just wished it had more POI. Are things better for those of you in major metropolitan areas??

I have found very few POI that have not been in the data base. I would say only 1 out 20 have not been in there.

One problem I've found is inconsistant ways of listing certain points of interest. For instance, say you are looking up the nearest General Nutrition Center (GNC). Some are listed as GNC, sometimes under General Nutrition, sometimes under General Nutrition Center, sometimes General Nutrition Centers, etc, etc.

Makes it hard to find things quickly. I still carry a phone book in the trunk.

I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area and I've had the same problem. I was looking for a Target nearby which has been there for at least 8 years or so and the nearest one it could find was something like 25 miles away. I was about 5 minutes from it but I wasn't 100% on the roads I needed to take, so I ended up having to call a family member for actual directions.

Seems to be a consitent story. I was sitting in a Home Depot parking lot and it pointed me to one several miles away.

I believe the road database (which have proven to be very good so far) comes from navtech. If anyone needs it, they have a way to report errors in the data: http://update.navtech.com/english_df...&submit=Submit

Does anyone know of a way to provide feedback for the POI database?

i've found that the places are in the db, but not necessarily categorized properly and therefore not easy to find using that method

Seriously -- I did a "ALL Types" for food and saw that "Taste of Taipei" was considered Thai and Yokohama Station was considered Mexican. What the hell?

Maybe Navtech picked the wrong yellowbook into their DB.

I don't know how Navtech successfully compress tons of yellowbooks' info into DVD, but this company might use their own restricted-filtering-policies to get rid of lots of information in order to reduce the DB size...
