n3wb check engine help
Hello All, i try doing some search on this but came out with no help. My check engine light came on. i have 59k on my 04. I went to AutoZone because They are able to check that check engine light at no cost. The guy told me i need a tune-up because there is misfire ( ithink that what he said) on every cylinder. Now i dont want to go to Acura to get this done. i knw is alot of money there. Can someone please tell me everything needed for a Tune so i can purchase all and take to a shop in my area.
Greatly appreciated

same happened to me bro. i went to our me mechanic shop as soon as the light came on and had him plug it in, same thing all cylinders misfire, the next day light went away and i still had the dealer check it, they came up with nothing, my guess is bad gas. give it a day or two it if it doesnt go away, then i would look into it more. dont forget our cars are designed for tune ups at 100+k

Might be a silly question but did you try tightening the gas cap until you hear "clicks"

This happened to me before also. Ahmed didn't tighten the gas cap. I miss NY where I had to pump my own gas.

You don't know if you need a tune. This isn't the past of distributor caps, rotors, ignition wires ect..
Its called replacing spark plugs. I think Honda calls them at 60k. It wouldn't hurt to do them any sooner. What Ive seen that helped is doing a carbon cleaning aka running combustion cleaning. A machine is tapped into your fuel line and runs detergents with gas. It does an amazing job and goes well with a fresh set of plugs.
Now a days, misfires can be caused by a number of things. I have yet to see bad fuel be a major cause of a misfire. I have though seen faulty injectors which are clogged up with crap start to fail and would cause a misfire or in general an injector that isn't functioning well.
Coil packs are starting to fail more and more. V6 hondas usually tend to fail in fuel injectors. Another not so likely factor but still a cause is valve adjustment being way out of spec. It would cause the car to misfire when cold and once it warms up almost 90% of the misfire goes away and you end up getting a little burp here and there. Gas cap?! When did a gas cap cause a misfire?! LoL?
You have to take it to trained ASE certified technician to fully diagnose your running condition. Autozone "Techs" just read what the screen tells them and in theory "You have a misfire" Their response is the typical "You need a tune up"
Next time your there tell them "Hey much much are spark wires for my car" and watch them take 20 mins looking around for wires just to realize that theres no such thing

BTW If its a bad misfire your CEL would be flashing. At that point the misfire is so bad it could damage the cat. Again take it to a trained professional and not these autozone clowns. If you were near me I would take a look at it. I could tell you a where to start but you don't have a scan tool and I rather you not know what your unpluging. Good luck and keep us posted.
Oh and I forgot what are the chances that ALL 6 cylinders decided to take a shit all at once...
How can all 6 plugs crap out all at once?
How can all 6 injectors crap out all at once?
I already know where this is going if he pulled the correct code. I am leaning towards Valve adjustment, faulty cam sensor or crank sensor or and possible, dirty injectors or water in the gas tank.

Just to clarify sorry if I wasn't clear. I did have a check engine light when the gas cap was not tightened up and I drove with it for a while. I didn't have it checked for codes. It just went away when the gas tank was down to 1/4 and never came up again.

^ Well that will set off a small evap leak code or 3 codes about evap. Still won't cause a misfire problem.

how many codes were stored? Were they p0301, p0305, or a p0300? Did you notice the car running poorly? If these codes are present and you didn't notice it running poorly then you need to look at TSB 03-033 to see if it meets the criteria. You can read the TSBs in the 3G Garage.
Just for your info
p0301 cyl 1 misfire
p0305 cyl 5 misfire
p0300 random mutiple misfire
