I think he might be referring to an old c&d (or r&t) issue where both a heavily modified mustang and camaro (from the factory) squared off in a test. both had very impressive 0-60 runs.

If, OTOH, you are a monied midget, the IS may just be the car for you.

You're right, FWD is sweet too.

looks are always subjective, so im not gonna go there. the leather in the TL doesnt even compare to that of the IS. the feel of the transmission is 10x smoother and the ride itself is 10 smoother than that of any TL.

the IS does have its own shortcomings though, so im not saying its the greatest car in the world either.

While the TL is a terrific car that I myself wouldnt mind owning, the IS is on a slightly higher level.

what did you think of the interior of the IS, space wise. i sat in one and felt it was too cramped. im not trying to make the TL out to be better, but havent heard many others opinion on interior size

Now for a street machine build by a factory. I have a road test of a Mustang that did a 0 to 60 in 1.9 seconds.
i believe that.

There was a test a couple of years ago in Motortrend, of a Lingenfelter Twin Turbo Corvette with 4 SPEED AUTO! It was a matchup between the car and a F16. The only thing Motortrend did was put cheater slicks on the back to get more traction. I believe the recorded a 0-60 time of 1.9 seconds. I think the guy writing the article said that it was like getting hit in the back with a cement truck!

Between an IS350 and a 6MT TL, im inclined to believe that its a driver's race. I'm thinking that to get the BEST times on an IS350, you'll have to brake torque, and maybe the OP's friend isn't doing that. A 6MT TL would be easier to launch i would think, and thus increasing its repeatability of faster times.

An auto TL would most definetely lose to an IS350 by a few car length, but would PiZown an IS250, stick or auto.

in both my old tl-s and the 3rd gen tl, i moved the seat all the way back in order to get into a comfortable position. in the IS, i dont have to move it all the way back.

the seats have a large amount of play in them (meaning they have a lot of movement), which i love. i admit, back seat space is tight but i have fit 3 people back there and the only uncomfortable person was the one in the middle (the hump in the middle of the car is pretty high).

i can move my seat up enough so the person in the back has enough foot room and im still comfortable.

so in short... for me its perfect and im 6'0"

an automatic car is easier to launch than a manual car.

I've been in a IS350 and the I say its cramped! Yes you can fit 3 people but at the expense of comfort. I loved everything about that car, but the rear leg room just sucks. Might as well be a coupe.

I'm 5'10, 230, and the interior of the IS was too cramped for me. TL has much better front and rear room. Hey, it's a different class of car!

Back to the original post -it's definitely a 350 that my friend has, and like I said, it can go either way - we've done this several times.

My point is that the IS 350 can't hands down smoke the TL in a drag race, just because of a car magazine's test data says it should! Handling, fit and finish, etc - I do feel the IS has the advantage there too.

I find it hard to believe a stock TL-6spd running with an IS350. Around the net I've seen them run anywhere between a 13.6-13.9@102-103mph thats well ahead of a stock TL-6spd. You would need a set-up similar to blktl1 to stay with an IS350. I've also seen a couple of dynos, and it seems that there 306 rating is a bit underated. I saw a dyno, where the guy had only an intake put down 268 rwhp. Just to put things in perspective, a stock E46 M3 dyno's 275-280rwhp.

I am with you in saying that a stock 6pd tl will not run side by side with a IS but i think with a decent driver, they can keep up. i dont think it would be a slauder. When i raced my friends IS I was pulling pretty well against him after 1st gear.

Not to mention, seeing folks on Club Lexus post 13.6 and 13.7 ETs really puts the IS350 into perspective.

Sorry, I am 6' as well, if I move my seat all the way back in the TL, I can't touch the pedals! I had the same problem in my Prelude, Honda gives alot of room when the seats are all the way back. So unless you are laying in the seat, I don't see how you even touched the pedals.

It comes down to driver's, He is by no means saying that the TL will smoke the IS. But he himself has beaten his friend driving it. As with any car, there is going to be spin, if it spins it will allow the TL to pull. There are to many things that go into racing, and you can not just look at numbers. Yes one guy may run a 13.5 in the 1/4 with the IS, but then there is that guy that can't even break into the 13's. Just because they have the same motor, does not mean they have the same output, every motor is different. There are some that do put out more then what is specified from the factory. Was the car made on a Wednesday or a Friday, this can even change the performance of the car. BTW don't buy a car made on Friday, the workers are just thinking about the weekend!!

Back to the point, the IS does have better numbers and should perform better, but it may not suit the taste of everyone. I like it, but would I dish out the extra money for it, no. I like what the TL offers and am very happy with the performance of the car. If performance is an issue, just Mod it!! As for the leather, first be sure to compare the same color leathers, as the black that I have is softer then the gray I had in a loaner TL. Also the leather in a Lexus is not perforated, personally I hate that, makes the but sweet, but they do have the ACed seats in it to make up for that. There are alot of differences in the two cars, and the main is that the IS350 is not even in the same selling class as the TL, if you want, compare the IS to a RL, they are in the same class. The TL was not designed as a sports car, it was designed as a luxury sedan, they just made it sportier(and that is why I bought it). Quit arguing that a IS could stomp a TL, and enjoy the fact that in this case that the TL did win!! Its all fun and games while on the road, so enjoy your drive in your luxury car, no matter what it is, because there are alot of people out that that can not afford to drive cars like these.

I enjoy mine ever time I drive it!!

Jason, I agree with you on pretty much everything you said. But you also have to remember that the IS350 is an automatic, and therefore is a much more consistent performer. If a guy can't pull at least a 13.9 out of a healthy IS350, then he doesn't deserve to own one. Even if a TL-6spd was to get a decent jump on IS350 in a street race, the IS350 do to its superior power(see 103mph trap) shouldn't have a problem catching up eventually, as long as its pedal to the metal. Of course this Stock for Stock

EQUAL DRIVERS, the IS350 should have 3-4 car lengths. Modded TL like yours vs. IS350....very fukin close

stock for stock... an IS350 will beat an auto TL and a 6-speed TL.

his friend must be a nice guy... cuz all you need to do in the IS is mash the pedal. unless he disables the VDIM and his tires are bald (stability assist computer and all that), his tires will not spin.

the 350 is CONSISTENTLY pulling mid 13's in the 1/4.

as for the leather, the color does NOT mean it is a different leather any leather in any is250/350 is hands down better than any leather in the TL's, and the IS does have the option for preforated seats (i know because mine has them). and the seats are not A/C'ed they are ventilated, theres a difference.

the comment about the IS and the RL being in the same class is just straight up retarded.

I'd imagine slightly better numbers once we see more owners and broken-in one's run the 1/4 mile.

oh and about dyno's... the IS350 is a hard car to dyno. not sure what gear they start it off on... but if you're not careful, the car will downshift when you floor it which will skew the results. so yea, its difficult to get accurate readings.

Judging by trap speed, 260RWHP in 3500+ vehicle is pretty accurate

So, you don't think the torque could break the tires loose, even in an auto? If it is using stability assist, then you are loosing power during that time!

Leather can very, not all leather is the same, unless it is a syn. leather will be different from batch to batch. As option, do you mean you had to pay for perforated?

As for the class, the price of the RL and the IS 350, puts them in the same price class. The RL is a far supior car. It may not beat the IS in a race, but much better car. I have riden in the Lexus leather seats they are nice(unpeferated tan) way to hot for me, my black leather didn't get that hot. Personally, I like the feel of my leather seats. They still circulate air through the seats, I was giving it a compliment on that so don't be a rude(because I am being nice and not saying what I want to)!

The IS 250 is in the TL price class, and would get stomped by either an auto or 6MT.

So if you are going to call people names, just go back to your Lexus forums and talk there. It doesn't really matter that you feel the IS would win, that fact of the thread is, that he has beaten his friend in the IS and he has also lost, but that the TL can hang with the IS.

Jason, I think it's accurate to say that an IS350 is NOT in the same class as an RL. As far as pricing goes, yes, a fully loaded out IS350 is comparable to an RL, with the RL still costing a little more. But really thats where the similarities pretty much end. The IS350 was designed to compete with the 330i, Audi A4, and C350, with the G35S and TL being the value bargains of that segment. The RL is more along the lines of the Lexus GS, BMW 5-series, E-class, A6, Infiniti M, etc.

You are correct, it is in the higher class sedan. The point is, that if you are going to compare the TL to the IS, you need to compare the TL to the IS250 not the IS350, as the IS350 is 8000-9000 more as previously stated. Which if I am going to spend that much more, I would by the RL. We need to compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges. You are paying for the extra power that the IS has. And I am sorry, that much more is not worth it to me. Just look at it as a cost comparison rather then a class.

Why all this my car is better than yours talk? I think a little buyers remorse maybe?
Go ahead respond with some smart ass blah blah blah, the IS 350 will take the TL in a race its not a drivers race the IS350 is faster period. Thats the topic of this thread it has nothing to do with price, preforated leather etc, etc. Stop whining and trying to justify your purchase, be a man and admit stock vs. stock the TL is slower. I (besides the author of this thread) have not heard of anyone else in a stock TL "pulling" on a IS350 ( I own both so yes I am qualified to actually respond here) and there is a reason for that it doesn't happen thats why. Most of these IS350's aren't even broken in yet but thats a whole other topic. I love my TL ( except no mp3, mad rattles, tires balding, tourque steer, shitty paint, FWD, common car) so I guess this is comparing apples to lemons since I have not and don't expect to have these problems with my IS350. oh yeah the IS350 is faster.

Please, explain why, if you hate the car so much, that you still own it. And BTW, had you read the previous threads you would see that I do enjoy my car, and I don't feel that it can out run everything on the road. If I had wanted to do that I would have bought different car, not a TL or a IS. I am very pleased with my purchase and will continue to tinker with this toy. Just because you feel it will out run the TL doesn't make it a better a better car. If you compare the times that are out there, the TL's are getting down to 14 and almost breaking into the 13's. It won't be long before they do. And you are saying the IS is running 13.5 to 13.9, that does not give the IS a 5-6 car lenght win. As things become available for the TL and the IS, the cars will be evenly matched. Yes we have to spend some extra to get more power, but hey, we saved it buying the car. So enjoy your IS, sell the TL and leave the forum. These IS folks have a bad attitude and can't let one person say that he had beaten a IS350. If you are that insecure about it, then maybe you should have considered buying something else. Both are great cars, and both are fun to drive, neither will beat everything on the road, but it sure is fun to try. So drive what you have, enjoy it, and let someone have there time. As the original poster enjoyed spanking the IS350

I can see a 6MT TL hanging if the TL guy is beating on his pretty bad and the IS350 guy is just nailing it. Going 13.7@102 vs say 14.2@99 is a difference of 3-4 car lengths... Just from what I have seen I would expect an IS350 put 3-4 cars on me if I am stock.

Now for a street machine build by a factory. I have a road test of a Mustang that did a 0 to 60 in 1.9 seconds.
Unless you're talking about a top fuel dragster, I call The previous poster is right. Racing is as much about shaving weight as it is about raw HP.

I still own it because trade in value is garbage and selling it privately has become a pain in the ass, nobody wants these cars used ( at least around here)

You may have them, I don't, both cars are nice the IS is faster.

It doesn't really matter that you feel the IS would win, that fact of the thread is, that he has beaten his friend in the IS and he has also lost, but that the TL can hang with the IS.
im done discussing all this off topic stuff with you.

a stock is350 is faster than any stock 3g TL. period.

you can mod your TL to catch up, but the same goes for the IS... except we'll be playing hard to get.

What in the flying hell is going on in this thread?

Are we Acura guys delusional? Okay, so something happened on the street and this particular IS350 lost. We should NOT expect that to happen and when it does chaulk it up as a usual street factor. (Driver, Car, Circumstances)

Why is it hard to admit that the more powerful IS350 is faster? Instead of arguing about straight line you should have just trashed its sissy slalom speeds, but instead some of your are arguing that in the straight line the TL is close and in the turns it would lose? Give me a break.

Go get modified and then say that you can hang with/beat an IS350. Stock to stock, anyone without Acura bias will tell you that the IS350 is faster, PERIOD.

Now if you want to get into which car someone prefers, that's a different story.
