My Tl Is Still Slow..break In??

Hi i have posted a thread before about my car being very non responsive of acceleration when i had it new at around 500 miles.but now that my car has 2000 miles i still see not that much of a improvment..is it not broken it yet??i do feel somtimes the car pushes really fast after 5000 rpm but somtimes even at over 5000 rpm the car just jerks once and switches gear and not that responsive..isthis normal??or not broken in yet??aceleration lag is really bad..worse than my 2001 tl.

try going on the freeway one day and start from 40 and go to 90(flooring it) a few times. or you can drive on a road with lots of stoplights and floor it everytime you go. i think by doing that the ecu or computer thing learns that you drive aggressively and adjust to your driving.

What kind of cars are you used to driving?

Have you tried doing a rough estimate of your 0-60 time?

One problem with the TL is that its so silky and quiet, it doesn't seem as fast as it is!

another difference between this version of the TL and the last is the drive by wire. it might make the car feel sluggish as there have been complaints about the throttle not being as resposive. personally this car is the pretty damn quick for a 4 door sedan.

VelfarreClubber -- If I could feel the differnece after an oil change, it would freak me out. It should make no difference at all!

NEW/WHIP -- one other question for you. Are you using 91 octane fuel?

Your car will continue to get stronger. It wasn't until above 5K that I felt like my car was as strong as it should be. Even at 16k now, it's stronger than it was at 10K. I think it's topped out to where it's going to be.

You should of changed your oil at 600miles. I did since it is free anyways. Their is alot of metal deposit from the breakin period and needs to be changed. My car ran so much more smoother after the first oil change at 600miles!!!!!

The car appears to not be as fast because of how smooth it is. Try putting it against some competation

True the TL does feel sluggish at times and the throttle response time is slow I'm saying this with 14k on the car now.

Actually I would NOT advise anyone to do this since it will do more harm than good. Modern engines do not shave and create metal deposits in the oil. This is a myth. It used to be true with older engines, but modern engines are already worked and machined perfectly before you even drive your car. Changing the oil too soon, especially if you decide to go synthetic, will harm the engine's true break in more than necessary.

I have the same problem I have 5000miles and I drove a loaner TL it had 14000 and it felt alot faster. I dont know if the A-spec Wheels I have are causing performance loss.

At 1,200 miles I was running 0-60 in 6.3 seconds in my A/T.

Mine was never slow.

My TL feels alot faster now that im starting to put miles on it. Just make sure when you push it that you shift in SS at the redline so the ECU can learn that under hard throttle, you want the shifts to go to the red.

One thing I dont like is how its so easy to hit the rev limiter in the 04 vs. the TL-S. With the TL-S, I can go to 7200 before hitting the limier, but the 04 hits almost immediately after hitting the red at around 6900 RPMs. Its taking some getting used to...........

This can't be true.

i use only 93 octane at all gas stations and 94 octane in sunoco..and today i really put my baby to a test. i was driving along the highway at little traffic..but behind me the second gen. tl type s got rite behin me and started to high beam for a race>..?so i didnt go at first but it really got to my nerves ..so i did not floor but hit high rpm alomst redline..still in AT not SS,than i did actually disaapear on him.OK..the cars fast.. now i kinda feel the car is meant to be fast only after 5500 rpm..{real horsepower push}..but the F$CKED up thing was..damnnnnn after i slow down...my car rpm wont drop...damnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnstays at 3600 rpm at any speeds just revs..while speed decresing..is this the tranny problem that the tl has??damn me for buying a tl again...my 2001 tl did the same when i did push really hard on the car

No, the wheels don't hurt. Weight is within a pound of stock. I didn't 'feel' any difference when I got mine and my car dyno'd fine (229whp) with them.

Yeah thats what I thought to, but the only difference bewteen the loaner and mine was the mileage and A-spec package, the loaner just felt a lot faster.

Mine has about 1200 miles now and I took it easy for the first 800 miles. The last 400 have not been so gentle.

Sometimes it seems like it doesn't want to go (from a roll - say passing a car on the hwy) and then other times it scares the hell out of me. Just depends. guess that's what sucks about A/T

Hang tight guys. Trust me 10K is stronger than 5K. No idea why but it is.

All I know is that while I seldom wind it up, when I do, passengers invariably talk about whip lash. Mind you we are talking about the 6MT. Can't really comment on the auto.
