My TL saved my life tonight....

Some idiot ran a yeild sign as i was goin down the street. Hit him at around 25 or so MPH. HE supposedly was drunk too.... this sucks.

BTW airbag burns HURT

This is his car...

mine:

The other driver had ribs fractured and a busted hand... I have knee issues and shoulder issues but nothing broken so far and some burns on my skull hands and stoumach from the airbag and a fractured rib. I walked away from the accident for the most part... he did not. For the hit.. im thankful. I can truly say honda builds a pretty damn tough product for the hit... and it was a HARD hit. 25mph without ANY time to stop. Now i hope the ins. co totals my car out because i cant stand aftermarket parts. The headlights are 500 a pop and parts are pretty damn high for my car OEM... so we can hope. The buick without a doubt is a writeoff with the A pillar relocated a few more inches into the car.

BTW.. my seatbelt pretensioner didnt fire and i had my belt on but my bag went off... WTF....

I seriously think i have the worst luck in the world.

Glad you're OKAY!

Hope things work out well.

This is another reason why I approach with caution around those yield signs so nobody pulls in-front. I think it's called defensive driving?

^ Yep, that's defensive driving.

Glad you're ok OP. You car looks pretty good considering the speed. The buick didn't stand a chance. Hope you heal pretty fast. Take care!

They'll probably total the Buick. And looking at the pictures, it looks like it could be either morning or the afternoon with an overcast.

Either way, a little too early to be drunk for the Buick driver.

If the insurance company decides to total the car, have you thought about what you want to get into next?

Glad you are alright for the most part. The 3g is a VERY safe car. Regardless, 25 MPH is fast when you hit someone. Sounds like there wasn't much you could do after the Buick ran the Yield.

Yeah I agree with this. You can never assume the other person is going to stop. It usually takes two drivers not paying attention to cause a collision. I even try to anticipate other drivers not stopping at red lights much less a yield sign. Glad to see overall your gonna be fine. Surprisingly the damage doesnt look too bad.

Overall it looks like the TL is still in good shape, I see people drive cars more beat up than that all the time. Glad you're safe.

Saved your life is a bit of an over reaction but I'm glad your okay. The buick is totaled for sure (junk cars to start with) and your TL depending on mileage should be repairable.

Be ready to get partial liability in this case, you have a duty to proceed with caution as well. Make sure to state in any conversations that you "saw the guy coming to the yeild and started to slow down as he looked like he was not going to stop, once you saw knew he wasnt going to you hit your brakes and swerved to avoid the accident. It is important that you show you took action to avoid the loss.

definitely not total. i had a similar accident before i t-boned someone @40mph when the other party did not stop while coming out from the parking lot. the airbag went off and the whole front was pretty mess up. so looking at your damage, i would say $5k t0 6k the most. but glad u ok tho

Worst luck in the world? lol you walked, key word walked away from this man...be blessed. At 25 mph you car looks pretty decent compared to that Buick. Im pretty sure there is more damage underneath the surface. Gives me another reason not to sell my TL no where near the distant future. Glad you and the other driver are going to make it.

Well IDK but parital liability is BS... he was traveling double the speedlimit and it was a throughway... ended up being he blew a little less than the legal limit but he got a ticket for improper insurance and he has insurance but its in his dads name and his dad owns the car... this should be fun

Even though he didnt blow over the limit the fact is he was under the influence. Shouldn't be hard for your insurance to get you taken care of. Good luck

Dude, (insert comment of general concern and positive outlook here), man! I don't understand this pic though. This loox to be a regular intersection but I've never seen one where a YIELD sign is the only safety marker for a road crossing a major thru way. I'm surprised more accidents don't have happen here, drunk or not. There should really be a STOP sign.

It all depends on the insurance company. And because he blew under the limit it will have no bearing on the outcome of the claim.

Update: Car is totaled. My knee went through the dashboard and because the wheel and some other stuff had to be replaced and my INSISTANCE on OEM honda/acura parts plus the blood cleanup on the headliner it was cheaper to total it. Apparently frame rails arnt cheap nor are acura seats that i managed to bend. They are going to make me a offer soon they said. I ended up having a sprained ankle and tendon and ligament damage on the left side of my body. Possibly im going to need pins in my ankle.

The secondary estimate was almost at 17 thousand because the radiator condensor and a ton of other stuff was on there as well and not pictured apparently when the cars went sideways there was damage to the rear drivers side quarterpanel.

You know when you say "OEM Honda/Acura parts", that these parts aren't actually made by Honda, right? This is just the company that Honda contracted to make the part originally. Therefore, in all likelyhood they are giving a 300% markup on a part that is the same quality, if not worse, than any other manufacturer's part.

Trust me, your "INSISTANCE" didnt matter to the insurance company. They would still write for aftermaket. What totaled your car was the air bags going off and the fact that to replace the frame rails they would have to remove the engine and transmission, that is a ton of labor.

And your knee hit the dash? Are you just tall or dumb for not wearing your seatbelt? :-)
