My TL-S came tinted
My TL-S came tinted
i bought my TL-S from Bridgwater Acura in NJ. Now i dropped the ball on one thing and i take responsibility, but it screws me into the next!
My car didnt have an inspection sticker on it, i was too excited to take that baby home(this was on fri evening), i didn't notice it was gone until saturday night. Now this wouldnt be a problem i dont mind taking it to get inspected...BUT my car has front side window tints. I don't know exactly what % but its not too dark. I called the dealer, a guy told me they dont give inspection stickers to used cars??? any insight or help?
(Front side window tints are illegal in NJ for those wondering why i am worried)
what do i do??

Take it to get inspected, if it fails, remove the tint and have it inspected again. I'm not sure how the rules are there, but around here, if you fail for something you can have it re-inspected for no extra fee.
That really sucks, but if you don't know anyone who would "overlook" it for you, that could possibly be your only option. Good luck w/ it all.

Heres what I have done before.
Go to the inspection with the tint still on. If they give you shit for it, tell them you werent aware that it was illegal. If they wont sign it off with it on there, just peel away one of the top corners of your tint and yank it all off. Depending how long its been on and the quality of it, it should come off all in one piece. This way, regardless of which way it goes down, you will get it signed off that night instead of failing and having to go back.
FYI you will still have to scrape off the glue when you are done.
Or if you really dont wanna mess with all that, google how to remove window tint using a trashbag. Very good technique and will save you about an hour of scraping glue off your front windows.

If you don't like the look of the tint then just have it removed. I think it makes every car look better honestly.
I don't get why people get weird about window tint. I'm in Massachusetts where legal limit is 35%, and I have 20% on all windows (that actually registers at 15% on a tint meter) except windshield. I have had it for a year, driven by plenty of cops and never been pulled over. Plus, I don't have a front plate, another no no in Mass (I'm practically asking to be pulled over!)
If you like the tint, find a place that will pass you even if it is illegal. There are places that will do it guaranteed you just have to search and ask around. If you hate it, get it removed.

hey guys thanks for the responses, i definitely LOVE tints, and i'd like to get it passed with them on..hopefully i find a spot! btw, im lovin this forum, ALOT of active members. glad i got my TL and a great forum who shares my love for this baby!
Tints on the front driver's and passenger's windows are illegal in NJ...however with the change of inspection protocol they are only allowed to inspect the emissions of the vehicle and the tints will not prevent it from passing inspection.

Im surprised they didn't expect it for you? was it a certified-pre owned since it was from an acura dealer? I bought my 06 back in November and its a certified pre owned and came inspected and tinted. Hope you find a good place it shouldn't be much of a hassle theres so many tinted cars out there.

That's easy to say when you don't have to get the inspection(s). We have to ours every year and every year I sweat my blacked out head-lights and 3rd cat delete. Not gonna sweat it for illegal tint when I KNOW they'll catch that.
Yes. Some states are worse (NY & RI, for instance) - basically no tint is legal.

Could anyone explain what this inspection sticker is?
I bought mine Acura CPO as well and my car didn't come with anything like that. I know I wasn't careful with my purchase because it was a dream 6MT that I was looking for months.

You will pass inspection regardless, as long as your check engine light isn't on. NJ has dropped their safety portion of the inspection which also includes tinted windows. This, however doesn't mean that you won't get a ticket for having tint on the front windows.. There are many threads about the law change here on this forum, use the search feature.
when you have to peel it off, get some dish soap into a spray bottle, with water. keep the window wet and use a razor to scrape downwards.
have a paper towel with to remove the glue from the blade, but NEVER let the window become dry while doing it.
blade like this:

scrape downwards slowly.

I checked out Bridgewater for awhile and they had ~20 3G TL's and every single one was auto. Ended up finding my 6MT in East Brunswick. It was also CPO and the front windows had been tinted by the PO, but it was removed. There was still a bit of glue residue in the hard to reach spots. I'd really like to have the fronts tinted, but I don't want the hassle from the cops.
It's a state inspection thing. If you have 'em where you live, you'd know.
Hopefully when you got your registration, you got either a pink card or a green one with it. Pink means you go through inspection which the car will pass as long as the CEL is good, don't worry about the tint they can't fail you for it anymore. If you got a green card with your reg, that entitles you to the remainder of a new car dealer sticker.
I have 50% up front (side windows), and I've driven by many police cars without incident- in NJ, you might get a ticket for Tint if it's too dark, or if you get pulled over for something else. As long as it's light enough to see in the car, I don't think there will be a problem. NJ got rid of the inspection because it is, as other states are, broke. The state gov't realized that 14 million dollars yearly was going to inspection with little results. As a result, it was cut except for the emissions inspection every 2 years.
Now people have even less reason to maintain their vehicles. At least the safety inspection forced people to get their brakes done, etc. Granted, it was a pain in the ass as far as tint goes, but it did make us a bit safer on the road. That doesn't make them any money though.

arent you guys glad that the rear windows on the TL rolls all the way down? as opposed to some other cars that only roll down like 80% this way you can hide your rear tints completely(not that rear tints are illegal anyways)
