My TL played a April Fools joke on me

So yesterday evening I got into my car to discover the infamous dash crack.

This morning I went to go check on badly it had spread, but it disappeared.

The temperate last night was around 35-40 and this morning when I checked it was around 65-70. So I'm assuming the heat caused the plastic to contract.

It is going to be a long shot for me to get any kind of discount/goodwill on this being that my car is a decade old now. Has anyone had any luck getting any kind of discount on their earlier model TL's that has had their dash crack? I remember them giving people a pretty big discount, but that was around 2009 when the TL was still fairly new.

I've said it before I think acura reverse engineering the dash to not crack when I get hot but they didn't think about it when its cold because the only times I got crack so my last car was when I parked under a parking garage or under a carport?...

I'm sorry to say that was the first one I got and I believe everyone else as well the next one will probably be over your airbag there's more to come and when its cold they will look bad...

the dealer told me if it was around 2010 when I asked about it then they were the most likely do it for free...but since I do most of my maintenance myself I don't have any service history of acura and that's why they didn't really help me either...tell him you had like 10 acuras & five Hondas and they might help you out...

Sorry to see

I dealt with this in 2008 and it's no fun. I went to my local Acura dealership and had them file a claim with corporate. After waiting nearly a month and negotiating cost, I ended up paying around $550 for parts and corporate covered the near $1500 worth of labor.

My dash did the same thing. I applied some super glue gel as it was warming up and sealed the crack. I still ended up getting a good will claim with a local Acura dealership. 70/30 claim- I paid 30%.

I just got my car back a few days ago. Even with a new dashboard, eventually it will happen again.

Start the process with a phone call is corporate
-file a claim, write down a claim number
-Make an appointment with a local dealership
-YOU may or may not pay for a diag. fee (Since it's not rocket science, you need a dashboard)
-They will take photos, and contact the district manager which will contact corporate and give you a quote.
-The last part may take over a month. I waited exactly 6 weeks for a reply.

If the offer is crap, take it to another dealership and tell them they offered no assistance. Most dealerships will work with those that are loyal to the brand and have any sort of service history. Most will help those that the have taken up most care of their cars. As the service advisor told me, "if the car looked like it went through hell, and wasn't worth saving I wouldn't bother with a goodwill claim" I know his statement isn't fair for all, but realistically, it's like putting new wipers on a busted windshield. I will tell you, I have an 04 TL and Dashboard's ARE SUPER limited. There was only 6 that was in the 200 miles radius that available (Said the parts guys when they placed the order).

I filed a claim at my dealer back in late January. Still haven't heard anything. I have a feeling the guy tossed my claim once I walked out.

I started calling 1-2x a week as to get an update. I didn't want to bother them and at the same time reminded them to stay on top. It's usually the district manger who delays the process.

That's a new one. How does that even happen by itself?

Except they will check all VINs on all vehicles to see if you actually owned them

Well how's this for an April Fools joke...my cracks which have been quite visible from day 1 of owning the car disappeared! They soon reappeared after I drove the car out of the sun - the opposite of OP's situation.

Could you elaborate a little bit more on what type of case I should make for myself exactly? If this was five years ago I could say that it is unacceptable for a car this new to have a cracked dash, but unfortunately the car is ten years old.

I want to get the ball rolling on this, but I'm having a hard time brainstorming reasons for them to goodwill/discount a new dash for me.

I've owned the car for exactly five years, but I've always done my own maintenance. I won't be able use the whole I service my car with you guys excuse either.

I figured they would do that. Thanks for the clarification.
