My TL is a pig!

I weighed it today at work. 3,920lbs lol. I'm 220lbs so it's 3,700lbs without me.

I had convinced myself that removing the spare, stock sub, tools, front bumper weight, trunk lid weight, and much lighter Rotora BBK had me breaking even with the stock weight. I've added the bandpass box, 2 12" W6s, 2 amps, and dynamat in the front doors. I'm 100-200lbs over stock and that's with 1/4 tank of fuel. How disappointing.

On the bright side I have a baseline so from here on out I can measure weight I take out for a total without taking it to the scales.

Maybe I should drop it off at Inaccurate's house and pick it up a week later lol.

Maybe so. It gives a ton of room for improvement. With the turbo and 300lbs of weight reduction I could knock an easy 3 seconds off the 1/4 time.

Nothing yet. Not till it's paid off in March. The obvious thing would be the subs. I'm seriously considering a single 15" IDQ free air. It would be close to a 100lb weight reduction.

How would you do the install of the 15" free air. ever thought of an IB setup?

My first system was crazy heavy so i went from two 12" boston (which are heavy on there own) to one 12" sub . less wood less magnet and i went from kicker sx amps to two pdx amps. I think i cut down half the weight but still think its heavy

Have you thought about taking out some of the un-necssary stuff like the counter weight on the trunk? The anchor on the front? Manuals? Rear floor-mats?

That would probably add up to about 35-40 pounds, so it'll help, but not much. Also maybe some light weight wheels/tires?

My terminology is terrible. I was thinking of an IB setup when I said that. Even with two 15" drivers, it would be much lighter than the two 12" W6s even without the box.

That's part of the reason I was so surprised. I've done both weights, stock sub, empty glove box, spare and tools, and 1/4 tank of gas and it was still 200lbs over rated curb weight.

I weighed my car as 3480 with me in it. I weigh 190-200 lb.

I removed all plastic stuff in engine, spare tire, all the manual/book in my car minus the insurance papers, and some other minor things.

lol, what car is ever at the rated curb weight lol

btw just one 12" W6 hits more then enough for me, and i know i keep it louder then alot of people do (btw everything for that is mounted on the sub box itself (amp, cap) and everything is on Anderson quick disconnects, so i can pull the entire setup in like a minute for full use of my trunk again

You're lucky. Do you have a system? I'm wondering if I really have 200+lbs of audio equipment and dynamat in the car.

I've seen curb weight as 3,400-3,500lbs for the non TL-S and 3,600lbs for the TL-S. I don't know what gives.

a JLw6 12" with a cap and an 500w alpine amp, but i have not weighed it with it in the car though, since it is so easy to remove for the track (pulling the spare tire is more of a hassle personally, with that center tie down and all)
and dynomat, yes i have one of those 5 sheet packs in the car, was kinda selective in exactly where it went like a half sheet on each door when i installed some alpine type-r speakers

but anyways remember i am also a 2g but before the manual swap i was like 3750 (auto, and i forgot to pull the spare), and now i am like 3550 (manual (i did put a aluminuim flywheel in though, which helps some) with me in the car, and the gas light on both times (also i emptied out the excessive stuff but did not empty the glovebox, or pull the floor mats out either (also both times where with the heavy ass aspec's too and 245's)

but the saddest part about all that though, is that an 07 Accord V6 manual is still lighter then i am by like a 75-100 pounds or so, without empting out his car or anything and like 3/8's of a tank or so (and he is probably at least 20-30 pounds heavier then i am also)

Nope no system. Never was interested in having a system. I'm happy of what I have and the less weight.

I have less of an issue with how much the TL weighs than with how the weight is distributed with the front heavy bias...yet another thing that sucks about FWD. The TL is actually lighter than most full size sedans of the class.

Wow our car is Heavy! No wonder I hurt my back trying to push start it one day when it was dead on the road, This sucker was heavy I almost SHARTED trying to push it. Luckily a nice fella pulled over and gave me a jump. I manage to push it 20-30ft.
So don't try push starting, unless your downhill. lol...

Sorry I Hate Cars, I respect you from everything I have read on this thread and what not but it blows my mind when people are suprised to find that the TL is heavy as crap... its a luxury car. Keep it a luxury car and dont just start trowing pointless stuff away off of it to save 40 lbs! Taking the manual out just makes me laugh!

The part that surprised me the most is that I've done the "no compromise" stuff like the factory sub, boat anchor, etc and the car still comes in 200lbs heavier than it was rated at stock. I guess the sound system is heavier than I thought.

I don't know which direction I'm going to take. I won't get crazy until I have another DD. I learned my lesson the hard way on that one with the GN. Quite honestly, the driving force of actually modding the TL is that the bar is set pretty low and I can farily easily have the quickest TL around.... Until Inaccurate gets to the track with his diet/meth/nitrous TL lol. If someone goes out and runs a 10 second 1/4 soon, I won't bother trying as I'm not willing to devote the time for that kind of ET but an 11 second TL will be a piece of cake.

I am not suprised the system added that much! To be honest thats why i have not put my Type R in my TL yet, it will add at least 150lbs and I dont want to throw away the trunk space... although that OEM sub really SUCKS!
