I'm glad to see you're ok. That is quite a wreck. Thank God these cars are built with such great strength. I hope everything work out for you in the end.
The alky will get what's coming to him in the end.

Geez,
Looks like a very violent accident. Glad you're okay. The docs let you go home with the chest tube? Anyways, I hope that driver serves some jail time for that; uninsured and DUI. Insurance in Cali must be ridiculously expensive because of all the uninsured goons.

It sounds like your pneumothorax (collapsed lung) wasn't too bad- the doctors use either a large bore tube (~ 1/4" diameter) if a lot of air is in the chest cavity and a smaller catheter thoracostomy with the valve if it's small. Take a lot of deep breaths (even if it hurts), as this will cause more full expansion of the lungs, and force more air out through the catheter and valve. When the collapsed lung is of really small size, a tube is usually not needed, and any residual air will be resorbed in a few days after injury.

JP - my thoughts and prayers are with you buddy. I shared your pictures with my mother who is 70 and doesn't quite understand what a side curtain airbag is or does. Needless to say she was shocked at those pics but now understands what those air bags can do to save a life. She feels much better about me in my TL after looking at those.
Keep your chin up buddy - hope you are feeling better

Dude,
bad news: Your car was HOTT. I study'd your photos of the system. It was brilliant. That's terrible that it was totalled.
good news: You WIN. Totally glad you're OK... at the end of the legal proceedings, you're gonna make a nice chunk of change to compensate you for your losses. TL-S time for you...
You need to get over to the J-yard and part that busted bitch out... make you a few bucks on the side.

Damn the TL really took a hit for you. Im glad you made it out ok. the safety features really did make a difference. without those passive restraints (SRS curtain and side airbags) i think you could have been in a lot worse of a situation.
best wishes for a speedy recovery bro!

Holy cow! That's amazing how you had made it out of that terrible accident. I've bruised my ribs before, but I can't imagine the pain you're going through when it's actually broken. Here's to a speedy recovery and I look forward to what you have cooked up in mods for your next TL.

but you can call me Ken.
Oh man, glad you came out of it alive to tell us about it. But dang, seeing those pics hurt, I loved your car. Keep us updated on how things turn out for you.

a) I am glad you survived that horrific crash. Thank you Acura!
b) to one of the nicest TLs on the board. I agree with the sentiment that you need to get a TL-S given all the 07 mods you made to your car.
c) Rip that drunk driver a new one. I take it you are pressing charges?

Safety Car
Wow, that is amazing how much the car took. I am really glad you are well now and the car protected you. That is always a scary thing when you get hit from the side like that.
Keep in touch, and guess we will see what car you get to replace the old beauty. Let me know if you sell your tails though if they are still intact.

Damn dude. Damn. That's pretty much all I have to say. That car looked so nice and it sucks you got hit. I'd write a personal thank you note to the Acura engineers that designed the safety features in that car. I'm glad you survived. In a lesser car you could have been killed I think.
As far as suing the drunk driver, even if you and your lawyer decide that that isn't the best option for you, take solice in the fact that your insurance company will undoubtedly sue the driver themselves to recover their costs and losses. After the insurance company is done with him, I'm sure you could then take him to court yourself to recover legal costs and get compensatory damages like lost wages. So again, at least take comfort in the fact that he faces financial ruin against your insurnace company, possible jail time, and a possible felony record.
BTW my insurance through Allstate covers any car modifications that are considered a "permanent part of the vehicle". So in other words, an aftermarket DVD player that is physically installed inside the dash or console would be covered, but a subwoofer just "laying" in the trunk would not be covered. Certainly your wheels and body kit should be covered.

I was following your previous thread about installing '07 type-s tails and side markers when I came across your accident post. I send my condolences to you and your ride. When you love your car that much and take care of it that much, your ride always gives back to you. In this case, God protected you and your TL, and your TL took the pain and wrapped you up with the airbags sparing you from ruin. I'm sure your car was crying but happy it held you until help arrived. Get well soon.
So, what's next on your list? Is an '07 Type-S in the plans? Can't wait to start modding again based on your creations. God speed with the recover my friend.

I don't know hat to say, it's sickening to have to go through this shit. Your still alive and I'd nail that SOB to be paying for a long time, even w/o insurance.
